The Hitcher (Rutger Hauer) at BBFC

Saw The Hitcher at the BBFC so I guess we can expect the DVD out soon. Hopefully it will be cheap or have some special features.

Here is a review of the R1 version -

Let's hope it's anamorphic at least, the R1 isn't...

I had this on R1 from APPRIA and he'd butchered the snapper cover into the biggest DVD case I have ever seen....

:shocker:

It was bigger than a VHS one..

EDIT - Hmm.. It says in that review it is anamorphic - Maybe the transfer was so bad I didn't realise..

European anamorphic version has been available for a while now - virtually no extras tho.

R1 is anamorphic although you’d never tell from looking at the packaging. Definite room for improvment on the transfer and I’m sure Rutger would do a commentary for a couple of sandwiches and a flask of tea.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Hopefully it won't be long before they release an R2 edition of Split Second another one of his films that has been over looked by the disc companies for far too long.

The beginning of the end for Rutger, as far as I’m concerned, started with that awful movie. Hopefully the negative has been accidentally burned.

I wish he wouldn't do that! There were so many titles I would have bought from him had he not murdered the cases. i quite like snappers!

Hi ive been told on our Yahoo group that on Rutgers Bytes section of his site there is a European dvd coming out. It has extras like Interview with Rutger and C Thomas Howell. Also there is a film Rutger did a few years ago that he is very proud of called The Room. Also a film short by The Hitcher Directer called China Lake amongst other extras. It about time we had a decent dvd with more than just the films trailer. This package sounds good it will be out soon Peter.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this film when I first saw it a few months ago. My review of the region 1 version.

Brilliant film - the Danish disc is OK (anamorphic, a bit grainy) but very cheap.

Agree with everyone in that this film is brilliant. Hauer's performance is easily one of the best I've seen & the tension & pacing is spot on. Hopefully we will get some good extra's & a very good transfer :smokin:

Talking about 'The Hitcher', I think I saw the guilty pleasure that is 'Blind Fury' with another film on a 2 films on 1 disc special.

Can anyone confirm this, and comment on transfer quality?

thanks

Don't know if any body has listened to the audio commentary on Joyride by the writers but they mention that The Hitcher is getting a sequal treatment.
They both agree that this is a lousy idea but like the rest of us they'll be paying their hard earned money to see it
