Well, that's generally what you get when you have a UK exclusive.

The shortest version, the so-called "International Version" is apparently Peter Jackson's prefered cut.

I asked and it's the 99min version, Jackson's intended version I'm told. From what else they said it sounds like they've put in a lot of effort into remastering it.

Thanks Dave. I guess I'll also hang on to my old US DVD with the longer version (not that I was going to get rid of it anyway).

Don't know which version I saw in the cinema - looking at the BBFC site it was presumably the 99 minute version, although it was a festival screening (I think).

This review says some early discs were botched, picture wise?
