The appeal of the windfall bond from my limited reading is that you get annual interest (currently 0.75%) as well as the potential for 'winning' tax free prizes (64 to 1 with the minimum prize being £1,000 and the max, £50,000). The investment is protected by the FSCS. Seems like it could be worth a punt .

They also don't seem to be that popular so there is a decent chance nobody wins the prizes in any given month. Great if you win, but it's not really like premium bonds where there are so many prizes you are likely to get some prizes.

You could have £10k in there for 30 years and statistically win nothing.

I suppose in reality you're only gambling £75 a year, but I'd guess over a number of years probability wise you'd be better with the premium bonds. But if you're happy to lock your money away a bit longer you'd be getting better returns.

£25 for me this month! It's a miracle! (...second ever win in 10 years, with a relatively small holding admittedly!)

2x£25 for me this month and 1x£25 last month. Happy with that considering I have reduced my holding this year.

My mother won £25 this month too. Her 1st win in over 20 years....she only has £10 invested though A

£275 (11x£25)..... kaching.

Had a few decent ones of £100, £125 and £150 as well as smaller wins over the last couple of years but I've never hit close to that.

Sitting at £975 over 12 months now.

Can anyone give an indication of the returns they're getting here? I'm likely to be made redundant soon and will get some money which I hope to not spend and do some other work.

Are premium bonds a decent return still? Can probably get about 1.5% easy access.

Looking at last year for me I got 1.95%.

There's the chance of a big win, but it's slim.

1.95%, it's not great, it was, for me, a temporary safe investment that's just been a bit more temporary than I intended.
