It helps with buffering yes, but not in anyway that will make a difference to anything that has a poor source and certainly of slow internet

It manages 4k streams fine, there are a few if know where to look, and certainly handles them better than my nuc did

Depending on how you use kodi and what for, you should consider real debrid

Cheers think I'll get one - don't use it too often and the Pi3 has been fine but sometimes the buffering puts me off although the actual kodi software works fine.

My Shield 2 turned up today. It's so much smaller than I expected. Going to set up and have a play later.

Whilst the power of the shield will assist with playback of various files types that lesser machines may struggle with and thus improve any buffering associated with that it will not solve problems caused by slow internet and poor servers.

Sure I appreciate that. I've got a decent ish link at least 50mb usually nearer 70mb download and generally the Pi works fine using ethernet cable. I want to start using Kodi a bit more and knowing I've got the best thing out there or as close to it I can't sit there thinking wish I had something else if things arent working great.

I just wish the voice search included results from Amazon Video.

I'm trying to decide between getting a Shield or an Amazon Fire TV. It will primarily be used as a Plex client. I have a smart TV so sorted for Netflix, Amazon and all that. Not bothered about gaming as I mainly use my PC for that (Nvidia card so might make use of the streaming feature I suppose). Should I just bite the bullet and get a Shield or will the Fire TV suffice? All comparisons I've seen pretty much put them neck and neck in terms of Plex performance. Anything I'm overlooking?

My shield TV remote has died, week, been slowly tortured and finally murdered by my 18 month old..., £40 for a replacement one! Jesus! You can buy a Roku or Amazon fire for that!

Mine stopped working.

I just paired an old firestick remote with it. Works absolutely flawlessly
