Your Top Ten Albums of 2018

We haven't totted up peoples votes for a couple of years but it's stil nice to see a few peoples lists.

2018 was a bit quantity over quality for me, plenty of really good albums bout nothing really standing out. My top ten could really be in any order but today it looks like this.

1. Skindred – Big Tings
2. Ghost – Prequelle
3. A Perfect Circle – Eat The Elephant
4. Black Stone Cherry – Family Tree
5. The Night Flight Orchestra – Sometimes The World Ain't Enough
6. Halestorm – Vicious
7. The Pineapple Thief - Dissolution
8. Clutch – Book Of Bad Decisions
9. Five Finger Death Punch – And justice For Non
10. Phil Campbell & the ******* Sons – The Age Of Absurdity

Any of list A could have made my top ten while list B contains all the other albums I enjoyed. Probably missed a few as well.

List A:

Sarah Shook & The Disarmers - Years
Pete Spiby – Failed Magician
Gunship – Dark All Day
Cardhouse – City Blur
5 Black Label Society – Grimmest Hits
Dirty Sweet – Once More Unto The Breach
Legend of the Seagullmen – s/t
Don Broco – Technology
Northward – s/t
Thrice – Palms
Church Of The Cosmic Skull – Science Fiction
Monster Magnet – Mind****er
The Alarm – Equals

List B:

Greystone Canyon – While The Wheels Still Turn
Blossoms – Cool Like You
FM – Atomic Generation
Stone Broken – Ain't Always Easy
Greta Van Fleet – Anthem Of The Peaceful Army
Coheed and Cambria – The Unheavenly Creatures
Shinedown – Attention Attention
Gruff Rhys - Babelsong
Alice In Chains – Rainer Fog
Machine Head -Catharsis

2018 presumably...

I've listened to 3 (count em) new albums (a lot) this year. All good.

A Perfect Circle - Eat the Elephant
Einherjer - Norrone Spor (a Google Music recommendation because I like Dream Evil)
Greta Van Fleet - Anthem of the Peaceful Army (heard Safari Song in Forza Horizon 4 and sought them out)

Manic Street Preachers - Resistance is Futile
King Creosote - Your Henchman
Olafur Arnalds - Re:member
Jon Hopkins - Singularity
Gruff Rhys - Babelsberg
Courtney Barnett - Tell me how you really feel
Low - Double Negative
Paul Weller - True Meanings
Angelique Kidjo - Remain in Light
The Orb - No sounds are out of bounds

Kind of a reissue so I’ve skipped Primal Scream’s Memphis Sessions otherwise that would be up there

Once again, I suck at listening to new music.

First Aid Kit - Ruins
Nine Inch Nails - Bad Witch
A Perfect Circle - Eat the Elephant
Chvrches - Love Is Dead

And these artists released a load of songs which I loved in 2018, but no accompanying albums yet:

Jade Bird
Norah Jones

Basically just listen to indie pop these days so there were good efforts from The Lovely Eggs and Young Romance but standout was from Colour Me Wednesday. Also enjoyed The Breeders and Parquet Courts, and for something left-field the Andrew WK album was a riot of anthemic rock with a message of super positivity.

Idles and Shame for the 'indie blokes' entries, although I thought the former was less interesting musically than its critical praise necessarily justified.

Took me a while to whittle my list down to 10 but here they are, in no particular order

Low - Double Negative
Idles - Joy as an Act of Resistance
Gwenno- Le Kov
The Wave Pictures - Brushes with Happiness & Look Inside Your Heart
Loma - Loma
Murder by Death - The Other Shore
The Orielles -Silver Dollar Moment
BC Camplight- Deportation Blues
Tunng - Songs You Make at Night
Parquet Courts - Wide Awake

A bit of as cheat with The Wave Pictures as they are two separate albums.
I discounted a couple of others that could have made the list - Kin by Mogwai because it's a soundtrack and we always excluded those when there were enough people here to do a big forums poll.

The other one was a real tough decision as it was easily one of the very best - Hookworms - Microshift. I just couldn't bring myself to put is in because of the reasons for them splitting up.
