Prophetic Songs

Was listening to some random stuff in the car and thinking how prophetic the New Model Army one was; then got Disposable Heroes (but also their cover of California Uber Alles). These 2 are 25-30 years old and make now very applicable – could also pick up bits of Pete Townshend’s LifeHouse concept which may predict the internet. What other songs have predicted the future (I guess by accident)?

225 – New Model army (1988) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd8qPpJIESk

“This golden age of communication
Means everyone talks at the same time
And liberty just means the freedom to exploit
Any weakness that you can find
Turn off the TV just for a while
Let us whisper to each other instead
And we'll hope that the Corporate ears do not listen
Lest we find ourselves committing some kind of treason”

Television, the Drug of the Nation (1992) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgOWTM5R2DA
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy

“Where image takes precedence over wisdom
Where sound bite politics are served to
The fast food culture
Where straight teeth in your mouth
Are more important than the words
That come out of it”

Much of album Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails feels more relevant today than it did on release in 2007.

Fruit Tree by Nick Drake:

Fame is but a fruit tree
So very unsound.
It can never flourish
'Till its stock is in the ground.
So men of fame
Can never find a way
'Till time has flown
Far from their dying day.
