New trailer, film looking good. They've really cast it well.
Certainly looks like it's going to cover Freddie's drug problems, sexuality and AIDS.

Fingers crossed as it looks half decent. Like you say the cast looks spot on, The guy playing Brian may sounds just like him.

Looks like they are playing about with the timeline regarding Freddie contacting Aids, but I guess its something that's typically done in Biopics.

Not a turkey then. But not a masterpiece. Looks like fun though.

I was sceptical but based on the trailer I'm liking the look of it. Like you say, May seems perfect, as if they've got the real Brian May to do to the ADR!

Maybe that was just the trailer, as things I've heard of late are that Malek is pitch perfect as Mercury, mannerisms and all. Some were talking of it being an award-baiting performance.

I imagine Freddie’s accent was all over the place anyway, as he grew up in Zanzibar.

Went to a review showing Tuesday. You know its going to be a shocker when nobody was allowed to view it in the UK until that night.

It's appalling. Utterly appalling.

Malek starts badly but is pretty good by the end. Everything else about the film is cliched rubbish and if you know anything about Queen then mostly bull as well. Some of the performances and dialogue are like watching a school play.

Oh and there is an unbelievably bad cameo which has you rubbing your eyes in disbelief.

Perhaps they should have got Ron Howard in and made a much better documentary instead like he did with the Beatles?

Nope, Freddie spoke fluent Queen's english (pun intended), you never would have guessed he wasn't born and raised in England from hearing him talk.

What am I missing? All I can see is a bloke in a wig doing a passable impersonation, Alistair McGowan would have nailed it in a similar way.

Ah, OK. It only occurred to me yesterday (reading this thread) I’d only ever heard him speak in-between songs on performance recordings, where it was always brief and excited-sounding. Don’t think I’ve ever listened to an interview with him.

He did tend to put on a weird American accent when he was bantering with the crowd on stage, at least in the '80s.

I had low expecations and it appears that even they won't be met.

Can't get to see it for a week or so and I've been a long-time Queen fan, so I'll slavishly go and see it even with the bad reviews, but I've already read a few spoilers and it seems that this has had the May and Taylor whitewash liberally applied to the script.

From what I've seen, the general public and Queen fans are adoring it. It's the critics who are hating on it, which was pretty much always the case with their music! Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing it although my expectations are tempered.

But if you love Queen you're going to go in with rose tinted glasses anyway.

Acting Ok but it seems as I feared. Basically it's a band that whilst having interesting aspects, it's more of a karaoke musical than any sort of decent film. Basically seems to be every Queen documentary we've ever seen, "they'll never play that on the radio its too long."

Seriously, who really commissions and produces a film about themselves?

Egomaniacs? Apparently Baron Cohen left the project because Brian May wanted Mercury to die half way through the film.

To be fair that would have left plenty of room to focus on badgers
