I've never tried building an amp. Good job!

These are my last few efforts...

I made this one entirely of metal. The neck is metal tubing and it's made with an old oil can.

Four string cigar box guitar. I was best man late last year and got a hip flask inside a cigar box as a present, so used it to make a guitar.

A 6 string guitar made from a half sized acoustic neck stripped down and a whisky box.

Does this count?

It was more of a bolt together and wire up than build from scratch, but I'm rather pleased with it.
The body is a swamp ash 2 piece which I finished with Tru-Oil (it's a kind a of wipe on varnish used to finish gun stocks)
The neck was a random ebay purchase, not sure where it came from, it has a fender decal on it but definitely isn't a Fender neck, but it fits well.

Tonerider pickups with a coil tap on the humbucker via a push/push volume pot, and a Gotoh bridge.
For a first attempt I'm well chuffed, and it plays really well.

Nice looking Tele kohoutec. Where did you buy the body? I love telecasters, I've been courting the idea of buying one for a while now. I also need to go for better pickups in my builds, piezo's are weak but cheap, and the mantra up until now has been to try and make them for as little as possible.

A lot of guys I know that build guitars use tru-oil.

Thanks. I've got a bit of a thing for Teles, it helps that they're simple to put together I guess!

It was an eBay seller 'Trollmusic', but they trade as www.guitarbuild.co.uk/index.php and offer lots of options on site (no affiliation). It all seems to be standard Fender specs.

If I do another one it'll be a thinline Tele with a walnut top, but I've got 4 electrics now and Mrs Kohoutec might take some convincing.... Still, one day...I find new shoes often help

My wife gave in a long time ago. I've got three electrics, an electro acoustic, a resonator, a mandolin, a banjo, and umpteen cigar and oil can guitars. Then there's the amps, pedal boards....

This latest one is a commission from my daughter and her pals. A present for their flatmate's birthday. Four strings, made from an old art box from WH Smith, and Ben Howard burned into the front. I had to look him up, never heard of him. One of the best sounding ones I've made, very much like a banjo.

Gonna take a few weekends off now until the next one, takes up a lot of time.

Latest guitar, 3 strings, nice twang to it. Decorative corner protectors on this one, also abalone dot inlays front and side.

Latest guitar, 4 string, with three way toggle switch (all just different tones from one pickup), tone and volume.

Building guitars has taken a back seat since December, I've gotten so heavily into playing the things instead (while it's cold outside and I can't be bothered building). I've been playing the last one I pictured here (all the others moved host so links no longer work) so much that I play it more than my "normal" guitars. Started doing some lessons on modern bluesy stuff on Youtube too. These two videos show a comparison between that cigar box guitar and my Mexican Strat that cost nearly £600. Same amp, same settings, same pedals. I don't hear all that much difference between them. Just shows you can build a decent guitar for under £30.

The Black Keys - Just A Little Heat

"Normal" version..

Cigar Box Guitar version...

If you can find a free cigar box! I actually quite like the idea of making one, the same principals could apply to a Ukulele right? Tempted to make one for my brother, he is big into guitars, and is always selling them and trading them in, be nice to give him one for £30 that he has to keep

Yeah I always end up having to pay a few quid for cigar box guitars on ebay, the only other massive cost is if you want decent tuners which I do, so maybe a tenner for a set, but then I get my wood as scrap and the other parts are all cheap (ebay have loads of sellers for pickups from China and most are decent if you can wait a couple of weeks on postage), fret wire is cheap etc. Same principals for a ukelele without doubt. I've made a mandolin in the same vein. Go for it, it's actually great fun and satisfying. I bet there are free plans over at cigarboxnation.com for building a ukelele.

Yes I saw a set of plans, basically it seems I can pretty much pick up all the bits I need on ebay and just need to screw them together.

I built this one a couple of weeks ago. The body was from guitarbuild.co.uk, alder but I used aniline dye to give it a kinda walnut colour and then finished it with Tru Oil.
The neck was an amazing Facebook marketplace purchase, 50 quid including the tuners, look at the flame on it!
IronGear Platinum 90 pickups which punch far above their weight, it sounded great at band practice tonight

It came in at just under 300 in total and plays as well as my Fenders. Really chuffed with this one
