A Perfect Circle - new material?

I missed this, but Maynard said in an interview from December that he and Billy had been writing songs together again.

However, Keenan revealed that the band might just post a couple of new songs online instead of doing an entire album. "I doubt if we'll do any touring or, you know, do a full album," he said. "We might do some one-off shows here and there if the timing's right and it seems like a good vibe and a smart thing to do. But most likely we'll just kind of concentrate on, you know, one or two songs at a time, rather than investing all the time and money and effort into making those plastic discs that no one cares about anymore."
Fingers crossed new material comes out.

That's great news. I'd still prefer one of those plastic discs though.

It sounds promising and feasible seeing as Billy's last project didn't exactly light many fires. As much as I liked ASHES dIVIDE there was definitely something missing for me and I would love to hear some new APC material.

I'd also like to hear the rumoured Danny Lohner remixes of the entire ASHES dIVIDE album which all seemed to have disappeared without trace.

Well they do only have Maynard in common so I don't see any reason why APC would do anything for you just because you like Tool. They are entirely different bands. Similarly, I love Soundgarden but get nothing out of Audioslave.

That's because Soundgarden were ace and Audioslave were three quarters Rage Against The Machine, who are *****. Ergo, so are Audioslave.

A Perfect Circle are ******* blinding though.

I love it. Haven't listened to a song on loop for so long but this song has spoken to me.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up that the album won't be fantastic but it's hard when one of your favourite bands releases new material after such a long time.

Fair play it's a stunningly good return

I've been playing it since it's release and it just gets better.

The bizarrely titled new album, Eat The Elephant is out today. Not sure about that cover, either.
So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish sounds like a U2 song! It's in a major key - I like it!

Nobody cares?

Doesn't feel very cohesive to me as an album, but the individual songs have some good stuff. It sounds and feels very different to previous APC which is something I generally appreciate in bands I like, I don't want them to repeat stuff. I can imagine some people would find this a step too far, though.

It's growing on me a lot now. The guitar solo at the end of 'Delicious' is mesmerising, and very much recalls the old APC sound I love.

I think it's a good album, I would have liked one or two heavier tracks but I'll be surprised if it doesn't make it's way into my top ten of the year.

I had high hopes and they've been met.

I had a feeling it wouldn't be an all out rock record, I think that angst in them is gone. They've always been the more melancholic melody rock outfit and this album is still full of that.

I even find '...Thanks for all the fish' to be quite gloomy musically despite it's more jaunty opening Coldplay-ish guitar riff.

It's definitely one of my favourite albums of the year, my only disappointment is every live video I've been able to see has been pretty shocking. The live performance of Talk Talk on Jimmy Kimmel was cringeworthy. I know they have a very strict stance on recording at their gigs but the fact there's been no official 'live' release from them, ever, concerns me that they're just not that up to pulling off a decent live gig.

I'd love to be proven wrong but it's a lot of travelling and cheddar to spend to be crushingly disappointed ... but then they may go on another extended hiatus and i'd never get to see them.

First World Gig Problems!

They do have an official live album (Stone and Echo) released in 2013, 5-disc CD/DVD set which includes a performance of every single one of their songs.

Am I listening to a different album? It's quite honestly the biggest disappointment I think i've ever had in a release. it's as though they've just started listening to snow patrol and thought we can do that. I will say that Talktalk and By and down the River are pretty good but the rest.....Urrgh. I'll try and listen to it again in a few weeks but jesus.
