[XB1/PS4/PC] Apex Legends - 'Titanless Royale'

Respawn stealth-dropped their new game last night, a new F2P Battle Royale.

Didn't have chance to try it out last night but what I've seen on Twitch has me interested.

Looks good to me, but it's only 3 person teams so I need to get on with some friends.

Looks identical to Blackout.

I guess if you take the Titans out of Titanfall you are left with COD.

Anyone have problems connecting on PS4? It hardly ever manages to connect to the EA servers on startup and pretty much disconnects me after a game and I return to the lobby. Tried all usual stuff, even changing my DNS to Google's. Fibre is a solid 50+mb. My mate who has 5mb is working fine! Can't figure it out...

---

Loved the 4 games I did manage to play..really satisfying and slick.

Really impressed by this. I've played loads of PUBG and this improves massively on that in terms of fluidity and smoothness of movement. It feels like a really polished blockbuster game whereas PUBG still feels a little bit janky.

It's got the chunky more frantic gunplay of Blackout but I played the beta of that and couldn't stand it. This feels great.

The ping system is also quite possible a landmark innovation for FPS teamwork.

Had my first go last night & very impressed, despite being rubbish at it. I've been playing Blackout (solo) for the last month, so it's going to take a while to get used to the way this game plays & getting used to playing in teams.

The gunplay is solid & as mentioned above, the Ping System is fantastic & you just know that is going to be "borrowed" for every other Battle Royale/FPS team game going forward...

Had another few hours on this over the weekend & it continues to impress. Even managed to win two games back-to-back but I was just lucky & had good random team-mates in those games. Definitely helps that you do all stay together as anytime you have a lone-wolf in your team, it NEVER ends well.

It's just a shame that we are about to enter a busy period of good-looking new titles, that will no doubt distract me away, but I'll definitely keep dipping in & out on this little gem of a game...

I wasn't interested in this when they first launched it but I've been playing it solidly for the last week or so and it's brilliant fun.

I'm very often playing with randoms, which can be frustrating with so many people playing it, their competence varies wildly, but if you get at least one decent teammate who does the basics of using the Ping system and staying nearby, then you can very quickly be vying for a win.

I noticed Blackout has borrowed some of Apex's quality of life functionality for their latest update too. Just really smart game design.

Still enjoying this but feel like they need to re-balance the loot. Constantly ending up in "high loot" areas but finding nothing but low tier stuff.

Wish it would stop putting me on a Belgian server as well. Can't understand a word the team are saying!

It is very very good, but i agree the loot is just all over the place. I too find 'High' areas worse then inferior ones.

I'd alter the all jumping from the same ship rubbish as well, multiple ships would make it a lot better.

Still the best BR game I've played by some distance though.

I think the honeymoon phase with this is over for me. I'm finding the same thing has happened to the player base as it did to PUBG, just a lot quicker because of the massive uptake.

Every trio of randoms I end up on seems to want to hot drop and chance it for getting to the guns first. I favoured a long drop on PUBG and I know that's really not what this game is about but I kinda feel if you see literally 3 other teams all trying to land in the same tiny compound its worth quickly redirecting. There's also a massive rage quit problem as well, people just cut and run if they don't like the drop spot you suggest or if you do something else they're not a fan of. I guess those are both symptoms of how quick and smooth it is to jump into a new game and get back into the action (compared to PUBG) but also because there's probably loads of kids playing it.

It just seems like the majority of players are approaching it very differently to how people did for the first week or so. I'm seeing the ping system being used far less and it feels like people are more interested in racking up kills, so favour grinding hot dropping over actually trying to win the game. I blame streamers, it's just like sports where people try to imitate what athletes do, only they can't and instead just play really badly.

Think I'm going to go back to BFV which I was really enjoying prior to Apex coming out of nowhere.

Popularity is ruining this if you aren't playing with friends.

Constantly getting teamed up with either people who've never played before and put up zero resistance or people who just want to hot drop and take their chances.

Tiring.

100% agree, the player base is quite diluted now and exactly what you've described happens far, far too often.

I think the next big advancement that needs to happen in online shooters is a system that pairs random's together that play the same way.

Might have something to do with 355,000 players being banned...

Battlepass comes out tomorrow and it's pretty much the same as Fortnite's in terms of progression and cost.

Sadly the art style and cosmetics look like **** in this Borderlands knock-off, so I won't be bothering.

Respawn respond to complaints that their thrown-together battle pass is dull.

I grabbed a Ł1.99 EA Access membership yesterday, which gives me enough Apex currency to get the Battle Pass for free, so I might as well have it.

Yeah it’s a shame. I get it’s their first season but there are loads of passes for different games out for inspiration so it’s extra disappointing.

On a more positive note, I'm still playing it loads and really like the new character, Octane.
