$99 for prime customers.

At that price, it's almost worth not having to press the siri button.

I think it looks amazing. Something truly unique and useful for the whole family and even technophobes will be able to use it with ease. This is going to be mega.

Middle of next year maybe for the UK?

I was waiting for the spoof bit all the way through. Are they really going to try and sell something everyone already has on their phone?

On our phones except always on, hands-free, open to anyone in the room, and if the speech recognition is as good as that and it responds as well then I really think they're on to something.

To be honest, I'm sure there are many things we own that in some way can be done by other items, in a different type of way.

None of what it can do can be done on my phone anyway

Plus, always on and listening. MS got the **** kicked out of them for Kinect listening to people all the time.

How's it going to be when you look at your Amazon recommendations and you see links to stuff you were talking about the night before. /creepy

A tad paranoid perhaps

The video does show that it only is in listening mode after you say the keyword to wake it up.

I really can't imagine any device live recording from millions of homes 24 hours a day in the hope of finding someone actually saying something interesting.

How do you think it listens for the keyword?

I just saw this. Wasn't sure what it was but it's actually pretty cool, if it works (despite the cheesy ad). You can certainly see how things might head in the future.

I've always found Siri to be utterly useless and never got much further with any Android ones, but if they can get the voice recogition working well and quickly and get home automation hooked up to it, that could be pretty cool! I'd love it to be able to control my Sonos, I hope they open it up to work with other compaies' products.

Unfortunately, my wife has already said we can't have one with a Scarlett Johansen voice!

"Echo is always plugged in so you never have to charge it!"

Just like every electrical device since the invention of electricity then!

It looks great, but Siri was also supposed to be great yet fails to understand what you've said 90% of the time.

I'm going to put this in the "i want it, but it won't actually work. at all" category.

lol

im glad not just me thinking this

Surely a charging base would have been a sensible option, so you can move it round house, them position it by bed at night to charge

mind cynci in me is thinking , people would only buy one, having it corded, then they will buy 2 or 3 !

There's no cynic in you, that's the EXACT reason why they want a corded version.

I can see them adding in SONOS type functionality.

"Alexa, play Jason Donovan in the living room, and downstairs toilet."

I hope they'll adapt it to allow it to be intelligent to kick back and refuse such unreasonable requests....

I guess they pointed that out as many people are probably getting more and more sick of the things they need to recharge all the time or have limited power as they need to reply on batteries.

Once a week lifespan of any product on batteries is around the time frame I'm happy with. Perhaps 8 days life, so I genuinely get a week from it.

More than that, and for me, it's just a annoying pain.

Majel Barrett, surely! Then change the keyword to 'Computer' and you're ready to go!
