Bosch

Anyone else watching this new Amazon series based on the Michael Connelly books ?
Titus Welliver, last seen murdering an Irish accent in Sons Of Anarchy, is very good as Harry Bosch even if the character ticks every tv cop cliché there is - estranged family, clashes with his superiors, doesn't play by the rules (and the American one where the leading character HAS to live in a fabulous apartment) etc. etc.

I'm 6 episodes in and really liking it so far. They've thankfully decided to stay away from a murder of the week approach and instead focus on a series long case. There's a great serial killer in it and a side case about the discovery of a child's bones that's really compelling.

10 episodes in series one, hopefully it'll get renewed. I really don't like the opening theme (which is a shame as a good theme really draws me into a show) but apart from that, this is very good stuff.

I've watched the entire series, and by Amazon standards it's pretty good. The ensemble they've got together is pretty good (The Wire, ER and LA Law fans will all spot a lot of familiar faces). The cinematography is excellent too, and Bosch's apartment affords some stunning shots of LA.

I don't think it ends particularly strongly, and it can be just too clichéd a lot of the time. I agree with baloobas about the opening theme.

I'm pretty ambivalent toward it really, and wouldn't be either elated or gutted at news of its renewal or cancellation.

I read and loved the books, they seem to have got it pretty much spot on to be fair, it seems to follow the plots from the books (i think intertwined from various books).

I love the books, and think they've done a great job of both re-creating and modernising the world. The changes they've made to the stories are just enough to keep me fully concentrated as the first couple of eps I thought it was just going to be a by the numbers pull from the novels[I watched the first 5 eps more or less in one go].

It does seem to have a feel of The Wire to it, but that may just be me making connections that aren't there.

Hope they film another season..

Massive fan of the books, have read them all & for pure, authentic modern-day detective work, nothing else comes close.

Have only watched the first two episodes but very impressed so far. L.A. looks great, solid acting & entwining three of the novels into one big story works well.

I love the Bosch books so would be interested in watching this series.
Does anyone know if it has been (or will be) picked up by a UK channel..?

Another great show thanks for the heads up guys. I'm up to episode 7 and loving it and really hope it gets another Season.

As a side note I'm glad we still use spoilers, as this is another Thread that I can quickly glance at to see if its a show for me without having any thing spoilt.

Just watched all these over the last couple of weeks and really enjoyed it. I liked how it was compressed down to 10 episodes rather than the usual 25 for US shows.

Just finished watching season one, and absolutely loved this modern take on LA noir crime drama. Great to hear we're getting a season two.

It started off rather slow and unshowy, and I saw that criticism echoed in reviews. However, I can't help but feel that made it more of a slow burn, and, refreshingly, gave it a feeling of maturity, believability and sophistication lacking in other police procedurals. I'm really glad I stuck with it, and would easily rank it above the overrated True Detective.

So, great news about season two, but are we going to see a blu-ray release so as to truly enjoy those nighttime views of Los Angeles from Harry's apartment?

I just finished watching this and felt it got a lot weaker as it went on. I like Titus Welliver and it gets by a lot on him - even then, a lot of the line readings were very stiff. It wears its cliches on its sleeve rather than trying to be revolutionary but it's nothing special. Good, solid LA maverick cop schtick, but it could do with some more imagination behind the camera.

Enjoyed this series and looking forward to Series 2.

One thing that is bothering me though as I've read most of his books is did they change the ending?

Any recommendations on what to watch next Re. TV series that is a slow burn like this series rather than a new story every episode?
