That's not much wages for such an expensive player, presumably that is net of tax? Is he really worth it?

Two hundred & eleven thousand a week, are you kidding. None of them are worth anything near that.

Pogba is worth it imo, he's excellent and exactly the type of player we should be purchasing.

I think the money is obscene, but then then we've paid obscene amounts of money for overrated older players in recent years.

The thing that is most surprising is that we seem to be identifying targets and then buying them. This is new, in recent years. Normally we identify someone, lose out on them because of some Keystone Cops farce and then pay over the odds for someone from a mid-table Premier League team.

It's nice to be box-office occasionally.

Obviously I was referring to the wages of other top players, rather than society as a whole.

We've always been box office, it's just good to see a change of genre.

I don't know why they don't cut out agents completely. Worldwide it would save clubs & fans a lot of money & put leeches back in the gutter (or pond) where they belong.

Completely obscene, the weekly is being reported as after tax too

I suppose because they make the transfers happen, mostly unofficially. Otherwise there would be a lot of formal offers, players not being told, tapping up, etc.

Seems an extortionate amount though, is it like the new deal with players, instead of 10% of everything, they make the clubs stump up for their agent and then don't pay anything else. Signs a new contract, etc. There is a fee for the agent, etc.

I read somewhere that the agent, Mino Raiola, may have paid a hefty sum out of his own pocket to buy back Pogba's image rights. A large part of the £18M is to pay him back for this, although I'm sure he'll trouser a few quid if this goes through.

As a percentage of turnover it's utds third biggest transfer behind Rio and Veron.

if they qualify for the champions league next season that'll be bring in another 80m. I agree it's an insane amount but the headline figure isn't as simple as it sounds.

As an entertainment business (which sadly football now is), it's not much different to season 7 of Game of Thrones. For 7 episodes, they're going to spend 100m. That's 7 or 8 hours of entertainment. Pogba might cost 100m, but if he plays 50 games a season for 5 years, that's 375 hours of entertainment. Obviously another 55m wages over that time.

Sky changed the ballgame in 1993 and we are stuck with it.

He's also fairly young so you'd probably recoup £60m of that even in a worst case scenario and he's completely rubbish for you

Dortmund 2-0 up at the moment. Thought that was a harsh penalty.
