Hmmm, not too impressive. Looks like Pogba's picking up where he left off last season...most expensive lemon in the Premier League!

Roll on little pea and the Hammers, we need a good start

Pogba makes the little things seem hard. I understand why Mourinho protected him last year but this year he'll need to step up a gear. I can only assume they see great things in training as he's underwhelming most weeks. But they know more than I do!

Wasn't he one of the best players in pre season?

Brazil should know about United being crap, he made a career out of it.

I'm not saying we're wonderful, just that it's a little early to write us off after one game against the best side in Europe.

I didn't write us off. Based on the first half it was correct.

So far it don't bode well for this season, as it looks the same play as last. Hopefully it will change....hopefully.
They may be the best side in Europe but their best 11 didn't play in the first half. We are not Blackpool, we are the richest club in the world. To be several steps behind Real, four years after Fergie retired & multi millions spent is extremely poor. It would not have happened at Barca' or Real, that's for sure.
I have confidence in Mourinho, but still some of our players are very poor & would not make anyof the top 10 teams in Europe.

"So far it don't bode well for this season", after 45 minutes of football in a pre season match.

Like I said, glass half empty.

You really do miss the bigger picture, don't you.

Is that a question or statement?

Enlighten me to this 'bigger picture'. I'm not sure we've finished in the transfer market yet, so that may not be our best side.

Anything can happen to any team anytime. This was based on the only possible means, which was the match being played at the time. Once more matches are played then a better & more accurate assessment can be made, in the meantime we can only go by what we see & what we were watching, & in the first half the football was a continuation of the previous season (premiership position & play), thus it doesn't bode well. We can only hope it gets better, but every season since Fergie retired it never got better. Why you hen peck at this I don't know, it's the same when you hen peck in the F1 thread.

I get your point, I'm just saying it's pessimistic to judge on 45 minutes of football. We looked pretty good say, against City or Sampdoria, why not use them as your yardstick, or at least take them into consideration?

OT, but what 'hen pecking' do I do in the F1 thread?

Probably not the best yardstick - It was our first preseason match againt you and by all accounts we were rusty; we've wiped the floor with everybody since.

True, whereas we were sharp, having faced the might of LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake.

It's no worse a yardstick to predict a whole season than 45 minutes of a match against Real Madrid.
We beat them on penalties a few weeks back, and were much the better side by all accounts.

...to be fair, I think we're all a little pessimistic post Fergie. We're still bizarrely winning trophies but not the one we want...and still look a ways from challenging for the number one spot. We've spent mega bucks on mediocre players... ...we really need a 'Cantonaesque' catalyst to get us back to where we should be!

We're better than last year, but not THAT much better. Not sure what to expect this season. Everyone seems stronger, but nobody has really set the world alight in the transfer market yet. If we could have turned home draws into scruffy 1-0 wins last year, we'd have been up there, so I'm hoping tomorrow is a turgid, boring, horrid match and we manage to bundle one over the line just to prove that it CAN be done.

But I can't say I'm licking my lips at the prospect of this season.

Plenty are talking of you winning the league but I just can't see it yet. Especially with the CL on top this year as well.

Pogba desperately needs to step up and prove himself, especially with players like Herrera and Matic behind him as a base for him to play off. He did it at Juve so no reason to think he isn't capable of it.

Surely today's match has "Hernandez winner" written all over it?

Sorry, as a "neutral", I just can't wait to see Micon's reaction when it happens.
