Glastonbury 2016 - recommended sets to watch

Just watched the James set, they still sound fantastic

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...group=p03z0qzk

The security guard looked overjoyed when Tim Booth surfed the crowd

Why is an international artist like Adele talking about pooping on the floor?

Sing some songs luv... keep the chatter for the interview.

Just watched the Madness set - as great as always. They always seem to genuinely enjoy performing.

Agree with that.

And, not that I am a prude in any way, far too much swearing and f-bombs even after she knows their are young kids in the audience.

Good point, time to make the festival even more anodyne and plastic. Maybe just rebadge it as Summertime Specialmand get Cannon and Ball in to host.

I think she was just incredibly nervous so her brain and mouth went into overdrive.

She could have done with practicing her routine a bit first tho. Even made a right arse of a couple of her own songs.

Enjoyed ZZ Top, Underworld, Tame Impala & Madness. Will need to skim through and see if I have missed any other decent performances.

I really enjoyed the James set, but have a lot of other stuff to catch up on this week as I've hardly had a chance to watch anything. I guess with all three of the headliners you know exactly what youre going to get.

PJ Harvey and Underworld are the best I've seen.

I need to watch EITS on iplayer.

Only the one track here but this is my friend's band Go Primitive who played on Saturday on the Introducing stage. They have supported my band a couple of times in the past so I know how hard they've worked to get here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/ewcj5v/acts/af3n5v#p03zgp4l

I was there (and survived for five days) and had a blast. It really wasn't as wet as they're making it sound (only rained briefly on Saturday morning and the occasional drizzle across Sunday) but the mud was indeed already epic and only got worse. With wellies on, it makes no difference to your mood but it did affect the speed at which you could travel around an already large scale site, with crowds forced onto thin walkways and your pace limited to a slow trudge. Meant I had to really work out schedules as there was no way you'd be getting from one place to another in any decent time.

Saw around 20 acts and my highlights were undoubtedly:

- Explosions in the Sky - both incredibly true to the recorded sound and insanely epic and sprawling, a real tour de force.
- Tame Impala - gorgeous sunset, rainbow over the field, amazing setlist and opening with Let it Happen and confetti cannons, this started strong and ended magnificently.
- M83 - huge, bombastic, a greatest hits package and some of the best vocals I've heard too. Infinitely danceable
- Bat For Lashes - wasn't really a fan before but totally converted now. Spellbinding stuff with, again, the best vocals this side of Adele. Kahn is a great performer.
- The Last Shadow Puppets - I'm a big fan of both of their albums and I loved every minute

Loved Hinds, Ezra Furman and The Big Moon too, though I've already seen these guys at least three times each going in to the fest!

I was also there (Oxfam Steward) and it was ******* epic!

James was brilliant - I've not watched it on iPlayer, but security were majorly unimpressed with him crowd surfing...he then walked to stage right, said "Apparently I'm not allowed to do that" and fell forwards into the crowd again.
The crowd were a little unsure about them, because they didn't play many well known tracks, but as soon as he did that everyone was completely on side.

Edit: Jagwa Ma on the Park Stage were very very good - not sure it comes across on iPlayer (I've watched it since I got back). Their rambling psychedelic style style perfectly fit the Park area.

New Order were terrific.

Jack Garratt was great - but I'm sure you won't get the full effect on telly - the bass was STAGGERING. Having just one guy stand there on his own and make all that noise...

I'm glad James didn't play a lot of the older, obvious stuff, as they're a band who seem to be producing some of their best work in recent times and keep getting better.

Thanks for the other recommendations to check out.

I enjoyed Wold Alice's set, complete with guitarist (accidentally) cutting his hand on his guitar with blood smooshed all over the fretboard for added rock n roll authenticity.

Really liked Explosions In The Sky set too. Muse were good if predictable - A 'Feeling Good' duet with Adele would have been pretty special.
