Tool - album #5 incoming

The new Tool album looks set for release in April, and doesn't appear to be a joke for once.

Hopefully they will tour later in the year as well. I'm guessing they wouldn't be able to announce anything until after Download

Riff sounds awesome so my appetite for this has been whetted even more. This will be the first CD I've bought in years.

It seems that there are now official placeholders for Tool on some of the streaming services so it may be that the new album and their back catalogue will be available.

Two new songs - 'Descending' and 'Invincible' - were played at the band's gig this past weekend. Audience footage is up on YouTube.

All sorts of rumours about the length of the album and I guess it's going to be a whopper.

Just waiting for the pre orders to appear. Hopefully there will be a big fancy vinyl set.

A decent sized UK tour would be nice as well. It's 12 years since I last saw them!!!!

The CD package includes an embedded HD video display and currently costs £77 on Amazon. Yeah, that's not happening.

£79.99 now. It sounds ace but no chance at that price

I'll be waiting for a vinyl version.

Thoughts, anyone? Is it just me that is completely underwhelmed. On first listen I couldn't find a single song that I got in to. I was actually - dare I say? - quite bored.

I'm totally the opposite, after such a long wait I was pretty apprehensive listening to it hoping it wouldn't be a let down. I loved the 3 tracks I heard prior to release and Pneuma, Culling Voices, 7empest all get a huge thumbs up from me. Even though I've played the live version of Invincible quite a bit when it kicked in at approx 9.35 I was just sat there grinning like a fool.

I love Tool but I don't think I've ever got properly in to any of their albums on first listen. Certainly didn't connect with Fear Inoculum on the first couple of listens but have heard it 8 or 9 times now and really enjoying it. Stand outs for me are Invincible and 7empest but it's all great. 10,000 days sounded almost like Lateralus Part 2 (not a bad thing) but this doesn't sound too similar to either of them which I suppose is to be expected after 12 years or however long it's been. Really hoping for some non-festival UK appearances on the back of this.
