A quick google around seems to suggest you can.

I've ordered one as Amazon video runs like a dog on my Sony Bluray player. Just need to find a spare HDMI port now...

Thanks Andy, I've had a bit of look around and decided to give this a go - £19 seems well worth it.

Shame it can't be powered by the USB from the TV, but still should be a good option to play with.

Didn't realise you could sideload Kodi/xbmc so have ordered one for my dad... Was looking for a cheaper android tv device so this is perfectly timed!

I've bought one, as I was very tempted with the full size box with XBMC, so this is a steal.

It's disappointing that you can't power this via USB from the TV, I have 2 USB ports on my TV. Does anyone think it would work with a micro USB to x2 USB cable ?

One of the USB ports on my TV does 1amp. I'm not sure if that would be enough, another issue would be that as soon as the TV goes off it stops powering the socket which the Fire TV might not like.

I think even for £ 19, I think I'll pass.

Even with a decent wifi signal, I'd much rather have ability to hard-wire it.

Plus, doesn't look like Plex allows 'sync' option with this.

Think I'll wait for the Intel Stick to come out for media when away travelling

I have just ordered a fire stick. Amazon video is horrible on my blu Ray player and all the services on it seem be slowly disappearing. I think I will ditch blu-Ray completely now.

I didn't get one because the details specified it could cast from an Amazon Fire device, implying not from any old android tablet/phone.
(however I'm not up to date enough to know if that is correct.)

I have read a lot about Amazon updating the fire TV so you can't root does that mean you can no longer install Kodi or are these two different things?

I've installed the TVMC variant of Kodi without rooting. Easy peasy. Only issue is I can only seem to launch it by going quite deep into the settings (settings > applications > manage apps > then find it to launch).

Picked up one today from Currys and have already set up Kodi and used the above hack to get the icon on the homescreen.

I now have this and a Nexus player and am surprised to find Amazon so far ahead in the appps department for watching and streaming TV, very few options on Android TV at the moment.

Like both devices a lot Amazon streaming is a lot nicer on the Fire then using the Kodi addon in Kodi. But the Google Music interface is superb on the Nexus.

Thinking of ordering one of the new Firesticks as I want to watch Netflix. For some reason my TV doesn't like connecting to my laptop, it won't recognise a Chromecast but will work with Apple TV. Tried watching Netflix on Apple TV and just get a message about my HDMI cables being non HDMC compatable. Is this an issue with Amazon Fire or just Apple?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at picking up this TV for my folks http://www.tesco.com/direct/lg-42lb5...w/511-9362.prd and wondered if anyone could give me some advice on what device I could buy that would allow them to watch Nextflix on the TV?

Might be easier and cost as much to spend a bit more and get a Smart TV which has Netflix on it already.

If not either the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick will do the job. There's also Roku devices, Chromecast if they have a smartphone/tablet.

I've only used the FireTV and Netflix works nicely on that.

Thanks mate.

They seem reluctant to get a Smart TV for some reason, and I know having to use a smartphone/tablet to access Netflix wouldn't really be for them, so will look into Fire TV - does NowTV do the same thing? (they already have Sky)
