Ultimate Comics question ..................

Is there a difference between comics such as Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Comics : Spider-Man ?

I read the first 6 HB Ultimate Spider-Man books and the 3 HB The Ultimates but now the universe seems huge and confused by what seem to be differing names to the comics

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man was the relaunch of Ultimate Spidey, not that I've read it, the artwork put me off...

The Ultimate line seems to have run it's course for me now, the original 616 books seem much more interesting now.

Only difference is the inferior artwork but thankfully Bagley has returned to art duties after his less-than-impressive time at DC. It's funny how his style works great for the likes of Spiderman but not-so-good with DC characters.

Getting back to Ultimate Spidey, I found there to be no difference in writing standards between the two Ultimate titles, no surprise as it continues to be Bendis at the wheel. His run on that comic is for me, the most consistent run on any title i've read. It's rarely excellent, but almost always guarantees good solid fun & there's never been a stinker so far.

Can't comment on the standard universe titles. There's just too many for my liking & the recent reset/changes in continuity sounded awful.

Cheers guys

Looking to get back into them and the "Death" of
seems to be as good a place as any

Is there a reading order list of what I should get for the FULL story (understand it crosses over a few of the other titles) ?

IIRC Ultimate Spidey was meant to be a modern-day retelling, with its own continuity. I bought the first 4 giant hardbacks ( so 8 trades?) and it was very good, but then the whole Ultimate universe seemed to lose its way, and fell victim to everything that had gone wrong with the 616 Marvel Universe in the first place - did Ultimate Spidey manage to steer clear of most of that?

Yes, thankfully that awful "Ultimatum" mini-series which did its best to ruin the Ultimate universe didn't have too much of a story impact on the Spidey series.

Really looking forward to how they deal with the current "Death of Spiderman" story. It's been good so far.

However there seems to be a gap for more recent titles (ultimate Doom, the newer Spider-Man titles, Ultimate Captain America etc)

Can anyone add to the above (seems to be in published order list) for marvel ultimate titles up to the most recent ?

Batman Inc. is simply awesome & is currently my favourite comic of the moment. Fantastic artwork, full of fresh, wild, wacky Morrison ideas.

Batman & Robin has been patchy since Morrison left. Tomasi's first arc was good but despite an intriguing new villian, the other arc was disappointing.

Batman has been fine recently. I'm not the biggest fan of Tony Daniels, his artwork can be a bit scrappy & his writing is average but the new characters he's introduced have been fun.

The other Bat-title that's been surprisingly good recently has been Batgirl. Fantastic dialogue, very witty & just a pleasure to read. Brian Q. Millar has quickly become one of my favourite writers, i'll even forgive him for being involved with Smallville.

Still undecided about Highland Laddie, the last "Boys" TPB. Nice to see a bit more of Hughie and his seeming repair of his relationship with Annie. Also picked up the 1st HC of CHEW, very entertaining but I want to pick up the 3rd volume but then I'd prefer to keep the HC thing going....damn it, can always sell the TPB on.

Yeah, Highland Laddie was hit 'n miss for me, the finale in particular was rushed & unsatisfying. However I did like the relationship scenes between Hughie & his g/f.

Thankfully The Boys has improved recently with Ennis making good use of his love of all things WWII.

I thought HL was the worst entry so far - I don't mind a bit of back story but it was just so dull; the reveal at the end was ok but it meandered its way there with little of note to mention.

I believe there are two trades available so far (one out just this week).

Batgirl:Batgirl Rising has issues 1-7 & Batgirl:The Flood contains issues 9-14.

For individual issues, I find that http://www.inter-comics.com are usually good with recent releases.

Which reminds me, there's an extra 30% discount on an annual subscription to marvel comics online
1 years subscription, over 9000 issues online though there are gaps throughout the comic runs.

code: Thor302011
http://marvel.com/digital_comics/unlimited

Works out to be $42 ¬ Ł26.25 for the year, new orders only not renewals. Valid till 31st May. No sure if it's ipad compatible as it runs on flash.

Anytime I use Wikipedia for trade info, it's always been accurate.
