I really hope they're going to offer trilogy box sets or separate releases too because I'll be well annoyed if I've got to pay for the Phantom Pants or Attack of the Nonsense. Otherwise is fantastic news and I'll definitely be picking up the trilogy trilogy on BD, maybe Revenge of the Sith too.

I bet the original trilogy will be a new 2011 cut. We just know Lucas won't be content with the 1997 or 2004 cuts.

Unfortunately, for you, I don't think they will. When they released the last 2 box sets people complained they had to buy two seperate ones, hence them now releasing them as one box set. I reckon that will be a part of the publicity too, focusing on the fact that for the first time you can buy all 6 films in one set.

I have the 2 special edition boxsets, but bought them both second hand pretty cheap so am looking forward to getting this on day one. So long as it has HD transfers of the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy, of course.

But fortunately for people like me that just want all 6 in HD. I can't wait for these.

No one is ever happy with what the poor guy does. Don't get me wrong, I would like the originals on BD and remastered properly, but I have them on DVD which was better quality than the VHS copies I had. I know it's not very popular to feel sorry for George Lucas, but I do, kind of. People forget just how much happiness and enjoyment he has brought to so many people, it seems extraordinary how angry people get because of everything he does.

I think I'll skip over this one and go for the 3D release

You're right, if he didn't release the new trilogy he'd be seen as a genius. The new films have almost stripped him from that from most peoples eyes.

The box set would have to be fairly priced, although I can't really see it. Looks like I'll be buying the boxset with 3 films I don't really want. I guess they are good for picture quality and sound demos though.

It's kind of sad when a major motion picture like Star Wars is announced on blu-ray...and I couldn't be less excited.

Oh, and they have a new excuse for not including the original versions; apparently restoring them would cost too much money.

If he released the original theatrical editions of the first three Star Wars films I suspect many people would be very happy. That's all he has to do, but he refuses to.

I suggets those who feel sorry for him read Easy Riders raging Bulls...and you will not feel sorry for the very man who came up with the concept of owning the merchandise for films by 2004 he had made 3 billion....yes billion in revenue from merchandising alone.....so don't feel sorry for him....he knows exactly what he is doing

I'd be very happy owning just the original trilogy on BD. Whilst I prefer the original cuts I equally don't mind the 2004 cuts either.

Plenty of people want the original cuts only and as plenty of people dislike the new trilogy. I like Revenge of the Sith but wouldn't rush to upgrade it. It's the original trilogy I really love.

I'm actually glad its next year, not this one, with Apocalypse Now, the Alien set, the Argento stuff, Rocky Horror, The Beyond, Grindhouse, Psycho and everyhing else on the near horizon. I might have time to watch some before Star Wars arrives.

We all just watched all 6 of the SKY HD versions in order (a first for me and I saw the Original in the cinema in 77) and now that will keep me going until next year :-)

That deleted scene with the light sabre, very surprised that was not put back in for the SE's in 2004?

In what way is it sad?! You couldnt be less excited about this so you decided to post this to tell us you couldnt be less excited - hmmm yes that makes sense...

Looking forward to this box-set of course! I dont care about seeing the original ones, overall the newer ones were better anyway. (who cares about han solo shooting first etc, I care more about the ships looking better. Mind you, that Han Sola/Jabba extra bit was a mistake and I hope they tidy that up or delete it).

And yes, I can remember watching the first one in the cinema on release in 1977 - just!

I remember it well, as I queued up (well, waited outside with my mum, as no-one else turned up!) outside my local Odeon (Brighton Kingswest) with snow falling on us... the opening spaceship pursuit scene was such a thrill, and still gets the hairs raised on the back of my neck when I see it now!
