Had a beard. It came off almost two weeks ago. I regretted it almost as soon as it came off. So I haven't shaved since.

I've not seen it, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Sorry, I should have said, how does it 'compare'.
I didn't expect it to be as good as the LD.

I don't know why you'd expect that. They gave us poor versions of the originals on DVD, and with Lucas' continued tinkering there's no indication that his attitude towards the original versions has changed.

Apparently some scenes with another iconic character have been restored for the Blu rays...

Apologies if already posted.

Please George, let us have 'em before bothering about the original theatrical editions. Work backwards. Show us you care about the li'l guy.
Ha! Joking or no, you make an interesting point. The 1997 versions made millions of dollars and created millions of new fans to fall in love with Star Wars, which is surely the same reason for arguing that the '77-'83 versions deserve to be historically preserved. 1997 Jabba looks awful, but to wipe it out of memory is to disrespect its (temporary and unloved) place in the history of cinema.

These temporary, already-replaced effects are just more proof that George can never make the "Definitive" version of Star Wars, so why tinker at all? And what does it say of George's "vision" if his vision can change every few years?

For example:
In 1997 George decided that Luke should scream in TESB as he chooses to fall rather that join Vader. This was now his "vision"; this was now officially "What George always wanted." However in 2004 the scream was taken back out. So hold on... which one is George's vision? Does Luke scream or not in the perfect version of this film?

Apparently they are going to being turning the BT Tower in London into a Giant lightsabre tonight to celebrate the release of the films on BD

Don't know if its been mentioned on the thread, but there's a pretty good fanedit out there of the first film, called 'Star Wars:Revisited'.

The guy who did it (Adywan) used the special edition as the basis, but has restored many of the contentious issues (Greedo shoots first) and removed a lot of the arguably 'unneccesary' additions/aliens while keeping some others.

However, he has also added some new elements he created himself, and the result is a much better end film (IMO) - and some would argue its Star Wars as it should have been.

He is currently doing a similar treatment of 'Empire', though the changes aren't as extensive as with 'A New Hope'.

I don't agree with some of his additions though. Some are great, as they fix continuity issues, but others are a bit pointless and make it just as objectionable as what Lucas himself has done.

Can anyone confirm whether 'The Emporers' Slug' has been fixed for the ROTJ Blu Ray?

The only addition Lucas has made that gets my thumbs up (save cleaning up - not changing - some SFX) was adding Ian McDiarmid to Empire. It's much better with him than the original version, and ties the film in much better with Jedi, not those awful prequels.

I know though as soon as you say 'Can I please have the untouched originals, but oh, you can include that new bit with the Emperor in Empire' you're not really helping anyone.

It's funny, but for years I kept hoping that they'd change the Emperor hologram to Ian McDiarmid and as soon as they did, I wanted the old one back! As with the Boba Fett voice redo, they haven't bothered to replicate the quality of the old performances and the scene feels very flat as a result. Bring back monkey eyes Emperor!
