Hmmm good question. At the moment you have to connect it via USB if you want to do it for free. No idea if that would change for the new one.

And does it just appear as a folder in windows then?

Also, can you get a dock for the kindle?

Not sure, I think you just need to de-authoroise it on your Amazon account?

The kindle appears as a removable drive when connected via USB.

It charges via the same USB cable or using plug. Don't think you can get a dock. Though this guy has made one himself

Lou - thanks for your help - i've now gone and pre-ordered!

Not sure I should be thanking you really since you just cost me £100

Out of interest, how robust are they - do i need a case?

Smaller shape and smaller price... £109.

Getting tempted.
Annoyed that in the US it's $139 (£88). We get screwed, yet again...

Not really; add VAT and it's £103.

It nice to see these things come down to a more realistic price point. It's fairly tempting now.

Very tempting - I have a few months out of the country and need to travel light so carrying a load of books on one of these appeals. The prospect of a proper UK store is great - hopefully we'll get some sane pricing on ebooks now as I can't say I like the idea of paying more than a paperback for something I can't lend on to someone else.

Does anyone do a rental system for e books? A couple of quid and the books yours for a month.

Like those old buildings full of books. Libarys or something.

You are pretty much tied to Amazon for legit books with one of these. Also, after checking a few graphic novel samples from the store, I don't think they are suited at all.

With the 3G connection, does it just access the kindlestore or can you get those "blogs" and the web browser working?

Must say I'm somewhat tempted by this now - but the price of ebooks needs to be much lower.

I put my pre-order in yesterday, slept on it, and still want it - i think at this price it's a real clincher...
I was planning on holding out for a colour eink thing, but looks like the wait is gonna be a while on those, so this will suit in the interim. Would also like them to solve the page refresh...

What does it matter what it looks like in-between turning a page? Never understood why that has annoyed people.

RPG - web access was 'quirky' at best, last time I checked. Think people would be best to remember they are essentially for reading text-only books, with anything else being a bonus, as they only really do that one thing well.

So, do i need to get a case too, or are they pretty robust?

Is there an easy way to find out if a book is available as an eBook? Different sites seem to sell different books.

vaderag - I haven't bothered, though it only really sits on my bed-side cabinet. Also I can't really comment on these new ones as the build quality looks different, so might be better or worse. If it is going to be put in a bag, I would protect the screen though.

LHG - the kindle store is on the Amazon US website too so you can browse and buy via PC.

I take it I could buy from there for a UK Kindle? I'm assuming they're gonna be cheaper than the UK Store.

No idea, but I can't see why they would stop you. Hopefully they will make the UK prices competitive when the store opens next month. The books are still pretty expensive I think even from the US.
