Five HD now available on Sky and Virgin

Five HD launched on Sky today, channel 171

Although I cant find any actual HD content as yet, none of any CSI, NCIS, Law and Order etc have any HD flag.

I think Neighbours and Home and Away are the only two programs that are in HD at the moment. One of them was when I looked in earlier although I can't remember what one it was.

Pretty sure it's available on Virgin boxes too. Next to nothing is being shown in HD just yet though.

Was amazed to discover that the new season of CSI Miami last night was not in HD. Why on earth not? I thought that Five's rationale for launching a HD service was that they had so many US series that were made for HD!

Why launch it with none of your flagship shows available???

Dont watch any TV shows on FIVE since House left, however they do like to show quite a few films in the week which will be good to see in HD

Exactly what I thought!

Five's own press release states the same:

"The public service broadcaster’s line-up lends itself to transmission in HD with top-rating US dramas such as CSI and FlashForward, popular soaps including Neighbours and Home & Away, international cricket and live Europa League football, as well as blockbuster movies."

http://about.five.tv/press/press-rel...ky-this-Summer

From another site:

"Having lost its slot on Freeview, Five HD debuts on satellite and cable TV today.

The new channel will be available on Sky HD and Virgin Media, and will broadcast a simulcast of Five's standard-definition schedule, including "a wide array of programmes made in high definition" (which suggests that not all of them are).

Five's brand-new live entertainment series Don't Stop Believing premieres in HD on Sunday, July 18th.

Other programmes to be shown in HD include popular Aussie soaps Neighbours and Home & Away; US dramas The Mentalist, Grey's Anatomy, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, as well as sports coverage from Cricket on Five and Europa League football.

As well as Five HD, Virgin is also adding two new time-shifted channels for Fiver and Five USA, to be dubbed Fiver +1 and Fiver USA +1."

I'm assuming this is free to air rather than free to view?
