books - new dan brown - The lost symbol

This is being released in a months time, 15th of September. Apparently the largest ever global print run at 6.5m copies (surely HP 7 was more than that? how many people did get it on day 1??)

has anyone pre-ordered? I'm just checking the options online and WHSmith has it at 50% off at 9.49 and Amazon.co.uk is the same.

WHSMiths in store has it for 50% off AND a free book - by simon kernick who i think i already have.

Am looking forward to the book, it will be a good racey read and i like all the clue solving. Not been able to find many details as to what this one is about apart from its set over 12 hours.

(and yes, its not great literature but thats for another thread)

It will be a quick and easy read for sure. I've not pre-ordered it yet but probably will from Amazon.co.uk.

I pre-ordered on Amazon on the day they opened up the pre orders. Quite looking forward to it in a guilty pleasure sort of way. He's certainly had long enough to over write it

What's the plot this time? Telling us that we are all really aliens or that the KFC Colonel is a descendant of Jesus?

What other thread?

We have to start a new thread if we think Dan Brown's stuff is utter gash?

well you can buy the new book, read it and then post comments if you like

definately a guilty pleasure, or like a big box of chocolates which you gorge on and feel a bit sick afterwards, even my dad read angels and demons in one HUGE burst over a weekend at mine. at 320 pages i can't see it taking more than 3 hours to read, which is a tad poor value (for me) but sure i'll like it anyway.

may re-read his ice station one again, that was good, though the one with the big computer wasn't as bad as people say.

Looking forward to this. Sure, they're not that well written, but his later novels are the equivalent of a Summer Blockbuster movie. Entertaining, but fade from memory within a day.

Hopefully it's not as bad as Digital Fortress though, which was teeth-grindingly awful.

His others are alright, disposable easy reads.

Digital Fortress is the most poorly written and plotted book i've ever read. It's a total shambles and a disgrace that it was ever released. It makes me angry thinking about the time i'll never get back that i wasted on that utter ********.

I think myself lucky, that the friend that lent me the others can't lay her hands on that one.
Looks like I dodged a rubbish read

I'm just amazed that his publishers didn't drop him after that first book. It probably sold about 2 copies originally but after the success of the DaVinci Code, it's sold zillions now.

Deception Point was a vast improvement, i'd even say it's a better written thriller than the Langford books.

Does anyone believe Dan Brown wrote this book ?

His name is used to sell something put together by an editorial team.

As Naomi Campbell said when she was asked if she wrote her auto-biography : "Write it ? haven't even read it. "

It wouldn't surprise me if this goes on. You only have to look at the output of James Patterson who "co-writes" about a million books-a-year. I'm guessing he writes the title at best & pockets a large % of the profits that the book generates just because his name is on the cover.
