I'd forgotten how much was crammed into the first 5 episodes, and how many of the human-Cylons were revealed early.

It's simply brilliant - everything about it. The scene with Starbuck 'coming clean' to Adama about his son was fantastic.

I'd had this, West Wing and The Shield to work through.

I'm glad I started here.

Did you see the recent Big Bang Theory where Starbuck made an appearance? it was inspired!

Yeah - she's defo improved with age, I was never too bothered about her in Battlestar. Although alongside Helfer and Park, noone else is going to get a look in.

Oh god that bit was good, the look Adama gave Starbuck you wondered for a sec if she was going to be able to walk out of his office alive!

I never rated Helfer personally with blonde hair but for some reason she was stunning in Razor. Grace Park was just simply throughout the whole thing. Shame she became a skinny rake after BSG finished

Maybe I ought to actually get round to viewing this soon - I bought the series 1-3 DVD boxset about 2.5 years ago now but still haven't started it! I then recorded series 4 from Sky and painstakingly transferred it onto disc editing out all the ad breaks.

Is the blu ray a major improvement on the DVDs? If it is maybe I should just sell the 1-3 DVD and get the full blu ray set - and then probably leave that one gathering dust as well!

The blu-ray naturally has a far better picture quality, but it also includes a hell of a lot of extra features that were completely absent from the UK DVDs (including extended episodes) so it's 100% worth it.

Don't wait too much longer before watching it, it's one of the best shows ever made.

The "old" is just the 1978 "movie" version of the pilot (with the closed ending). I kind of think it's daft including that but whatever. I do wish Razor was placed between Seasons 3 and 4 though.
I really want this set because I want Caprica on blu (and the standalone set seems to be unavailable for anything but silly prices now). Even though Caprica is 1080/50i and has "PAL speed-up" I still want it.
Thanks for posting the pics dunk, it's really great!

dunkrag,
I'm confused by the disc count being 29 in this set. Is 'Razor' included twice (once as disc 1 of Season 4 and again as a stand-alone disc)?

Ah, it's a totally different pressing to the UK/US discs!
Seems to have some exclusive extras? like Bear McCreary's scores across the whole series etc.

Correct - the original scores are all present on the final disc of each season (including the mini series and Caprica) - nearly complete to the previously released CD's (couple of tracks are missing from S3 & 4) (scores aren't there for Plan/Razor/B&C) - that's about £40 of Soundtrack CD's at today's prices..

There is also over 2 hours of documentaries on McCreary and the music of BSG including 34 mins of live performance.

Actually, The Plan and Razor both have their scores included!
No score on Blood & Chrome though.

Just got my set, it really is a thing of beauty.

Universal has just announced a bluray set of the original series in HD. I think most fans will be annoyed that they have to shell out more for the definitive edition!

From the press release,
Quote:
Newly remastered in 16:9 widescreen presentation for the very first time, Battlestar Galactica: The Remastered Collection features both pioneering series meticulously reformatted to be optimized for the HDTV viewing experience. Battlestar Galactica: The Definitive Collection also includes both series in 4:3 Full Frame as they were originally televised, plus the theatrical version of the premiere episode "Saga of a Star World," presented in 1.85:1 widescreen for the ultimate collector.
