I've got an EP30, plenty cheap enough - good enough range of films to watch. It's a bit cheaper now. That's all.

In 1080p/24 - it looks pretty swish on my Panasonic PTAE-20000.

But two things; the player is cheap, buggy and very slow - and it's not worth getting too excited about upscaling. If you've bought a HD-DVD machine with a decent sized display device then upscaling looks pretty lousy no matter how you do it - compared to Hidef, this in turn leads you to ditch your DVD collection over time - which to me leaves me back at square one ... A HD player with a dodgy future.

The PS3 plays DIVX now.

At the moment, I have 38 HD titles, which are about 2/3rds to 1/3 blu ray. However, the reason for that is that given the choice I would always have gone blu due to the better sound processes of the PS3.
I know what you mean about the noise. My 360 isn't particularly loud, but the PS3 is quieter. I say this as a dual format owner, I don't know why but I just prefer HD DVD and that's with a noisier 360 add-on drive. I think it's mainly because I've imported a few films from America on HD DVD that were still on at the cinema over here (Knocked Up and Stardust). I know a lot of Blu Rays are region free as well, but it's a pain hunting round to find if a title is region free or not.

If I managed to buy a quiet EP-35 and be able to hear the new audio formats I know I'd fall in love with HD DVD and be gutted if it did fall by the wayside. Guess I'd just have to start saving up for a new amp!

It's fair post he made and I have no problem with it, but he's pretty much proven himself right as the familiar names have come into this thread, poo-pooed over everything (again) and stuck the boot into another member at the same time so well done for that.

I know. Which is why I took the plunge.

I was saying I felt it was important for both HD formats.

It is a complete shame. I was staying out of this forum until the big Warners announcement - and I think that I will stay out of this foum now in future.

God knows myself and Splobber are not each others biggest fans but I really don't envy you the job of modding in here

That guy had the one unique saving grace of uniting the blu and the red posters on the board, so he wasn't all bad, horsey

Splobber apparently didn't have much problem with him.

I suppose having a blu and a red forum as separate wouldn't work, would it?

They tried that on AVS Forums but there was nothing to stop supporters of the other format posting and carping in the separate threads.

Where did I say or even imply that? I gave him a few friendly warnings and then closed the thread when the name calling didn't stop.

Next time we see it, and he has got himself added to the to be watched pile, then an official warning will be issued.

Then again, namedropping and goading all the time (such as you continally mentioning thevogon in threads) only serves to hamper any chance of civility.

Maybe it's just me, but that sounded like an implicit defence of him.
If I'm wrong, fair enough.

With all due respect; you let him run riot for page after page after page, getting everyone's back up.
Then when I made a sarcastic remark you closed the thread.

I've seen others given public in-thread warnings for far less.

thevogon was a very heavy poster in this forum. He hasn't been on for a while, I'd genuinely like to hear his take on things as they are now.
I've already said if/when he does come back that I won't be rubbing his nose in it.

I only got a little "robust" with my posts because of some of the provocative and bigoted posts from the Blu-Ray campers.

I know I shouldn't rise to the bait but even now, when you look at the daft thread about civility started by Horseflesh and his posts on this one, it's too easy to respond.

Still, I'm not a fanatic and I've got far too many things to do to worry about it

Robust??
Abusive more like.
"dim"
"moron"
"******"
"thick"

They're just the insults you used last night that spring immediately to mind.
Still, you got away with it and no doubt had a good laugh up your sleeve, so that's the main thing.
