Just finished reading the book again after seeing HBP, looking forward to the final film(s). Not quite sure where they will split it though, perhaps after

so thought this would be a better place to discuss the new movie and how the movies differ from the books, as anything we say would be spoilerific in the exterem and this thread is full of spoilers anyway

But best spoiler anything in the Final movie if it differs from the books alot.

I'm in 2 minds about seeing the final film at the cinema, 7a seemed meh, i hated the fact they dropped the whole "young dursley says thanks to harry" plot and i suspect for 7b we won't see snape redeemed and we won't see neville be the true hero (as the books have always made it clear, it could just have easily been neville instead of harry who would be the one to defeat you know who)

I suspect the same people will die (from brief scenes in the trailer) but will we get Mrs Weasly going all Mad max? or the saving of the malfoy family?

definately one to watch on dvd but think it will annoy me on the big screen - so maybe a book re-read instead as it appears to be 2 years since last read it!

I think you are right about Dudley but I think we will see Snape redeemed and Neville a hero. I seem to remember some quick shots in the trailers to suggest you are right about the other deaths. Think I also saw Mrs Weasly lose it as well (does a Ripley from Aliens – “Step away from her” etc.)

I’m kind of glad of the differences between the books and the movies although they do irritate me on the initial viewing. The books still great fun to read as the story is much more detailed. If the films were too loyal then they are in danger of stealing some of the magic from the reading experience.

Edit: On a side note, my least liked book and movie is fast becoming my favourite - Order of the Pheonix.

I think neville will do his bit, but the viewer won't understand the context of why (just that in the way of films, someone unexpected appears and does something good - like percy - doubt he'd even be in it as the films dropped him, whilst the books dwelled a lot on the family issues of him supporting the ministry)

yes, i saw the Mrs weasley thing too. They have already revealed that ron and hermonie snog (Daybreak today, interview with ron) which was a nice scene.

Neville’s part will still work as he’s the nerdy guy who finally gets the courage and becomes a hero.

Percy will probably be in it but I doubt he’ll have any lines and his appearance will hold no significance.

I hope they get the kiss right. I imagine they will be a few cheers from the audience.

As they chap in the movie thread mentioned, I’m not sure how the scene where he grabs V in and pulls him off the tower will work or the ‘priori incantatem’ shown in the trailer.

On the NY subway last week the Times Sq station had a huge wall of HP posters for the film and Neville had his own one alongside the main cast members, suggesting he has a bigger part to play in the film.

I can't believe they'd not redeem Snape - it's too big a plotline in both the books and the films.

Absolutely. Snape’s story will definitely be told especially after DD said “please Severus” at the end of HBP. They may alter it though and remove the Lily connection.

The actors who play the Weasley twins have already revealed that
during the Battle for Hogwarts, as in the book.

Read a very spoilery review of the movie in the Evening Standard last night. Which basically confirms that

think i'll go and see it in a few weeks, when i am off during the day. Should be at the cinemas for ages!

For those worried about how Snape's story will be told, don't be. This is from a review of the film.

I did sob during the snape final scenes

only thing i feel they missed in the 2nd movie was the Percy scenes, though he is in the final but not speaking or identified. Then again the whole Him against the weasley believes hasn't been mentioned either.

One wonders when tonks gave birth as well!
