Yes, and yes would be my answer to that.

You're either on the lead character's wavelength or you're not, I reckon (and you'd have to be I think to fully enjoy it).

Personally, I think it's one of the greatest sitcoms ever but maybe you shouldn't bother carrying on as it doesn't sound like you're that enthused!

I thought 4 jumped the shark a little, there were some good episodes and some cracking individual scenes, but the story arc and the payoff at the end was very poor. I think there were even a couple of jokes recycled from earlier series, but cant remember any details. Going to take a chance on 5, though.

I also wonder why his missus never takes his side.

But the trouble with S4 is that some of the humour stops being about Larry and 'being on his wavelength', which was why I liked it in the first place.

About the end of S4 -

I'm taking a chance on 5, but I hope its better than 4.

Never mind, each to their own. I had read comments about S4 and 5 not being up to scratch prior to seeing them but found them both excellent.

"The Bowtie" and "Kamikaze Bingo" from S5 are two wonderful episodes with some of the most original and brilliant material I've seen in a sitcom in years, if ever.

I'd avoid Season 5 like the plague, although Season 4 wasn't bad. I advise against anyone thinking of buying Season 5 blind. They really departed from the original formula in some episodes, to the point where it just didn't feel like the same show.

Strongly disagree with your views on this matter. It certainly felt like the same show to me.

I do really enjoy this show but it winds me up when he doesn't defend himself, it quickly moves from funny to just annoying/stupid.
The friend of Cheryls (can't remember her name but she is a black woman) who talks to him all the time like he's a piece of crap is just so annoying - you know in real life he would have told her to F off years ago.
And things like the kid in season 5 blackmailing him to take him to the Playboy mansion was just stupid.
I realise that in any comedy things are exaggerated but his attitude in these situations is getting tiresome.
Its still a great show but its no Seinfeld beater.

Big-assed Wanda?

Despite a few brilliant moments, there was definately a dip in quality in the fifth series. I just hope that it;s back on form for the last series.

1-3 I thought were exceptional, but I think it ran out of steam in S4. Wasn;t there even a repeat of one of the jokes from the first season? Something to do with trying to give someone a tip, but not being able to?

I do look forward to 5, always prepared to give it a chance.

There seems to be a bit of a consensus that it jumped the shark in Season 5, but to me it stepped up to another level completely.

You'll either absolutely love or absolutely hate the Season Finale, put it this way....

I loved season 5, but thought some of the episodes seemed weak. Just watched The Korean Bookie again, which I didn't really get on with, and I could take or leave the finale. But The Bowtie is superb, and The Ski Lift is one of my favourite Curb episodes ever.

Forgot about this thread. Enjoying Season 5 so far. Seems better than 4, but I'm only a couple of episodes in.

I found Season 5 to be the weakest season so far but it still had a lot of good moments. Season 4 was one of my favourite seasons - a lot of really stomach-hurting moments.

I'm dying to rewatch Season five, but ordered Region two instead, because I have seasons one-four region two..

Even though the difference is probably nothing.

Although if there is a Season six, what is the betting that there's an uber boxset... although dont think there would be an extra DVD or anything... maybe just an extra cover?
