jericho any good?

i have heard a bit about this, and with the lack of lost and 24, i wonder if this is worth getting into? i'm quite into Heroes and Prison Break.... do you think this will be to my liking based on the others i have mentioned? also what season and episode are we upto in America?

I started watching it, but I decided (along with a few others I think) that there was too much small-town soap opera stuff, and not enough OMFG NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST action. I gave up around episode 7, and haven't missed it at all. I think it's at 9 or 10 now.

I loved the first couple of episodes but I've grown quite tired of it, it's definately not living up to its potential and it's had some woefully bad special effects, last weeks blue screen driving being high up on that list.

I've just given up as well, watched the first 5 minutes of last weeks episode and just couldn't watch anymore. The premise sounds good, its just too much like a soap opera rather than a holocause like Roddy said

Glad to see I'm not the only one opting out of the show. It's disappointing, as I had really high hopes for it - would have loved something along the lines of . . . hang on, how's this affiliatey thing work . . . the post-comet parts of Larry Niven's Lucifer's Hammer or even Earth Abides - both of which are excellent stories about rebuilding (or trying to rebuild) society from scratch. As it is you could take out the 10 or 15 minutes of 'action' from every episode and sell it as a rather dull afternoon soap in the sleepy everyday town of Jericho.

Stopped watching it also. Here I was my entire life hearing how a nuclear war would pretty much end the world in one way or another ..... where it appears it's just a minor annoyance for a couple of days, mainly because Tesco will be shut.

I'm still watching and reckon it'll be a bit of slow burner but will eventually come good.

I'm still hanging in there. Yes it gets too soapy at times & lacks urgency, but there is still enough intrigue & interest in the post-nuclear attack scenario to keep watching it.

It's total pants!
Nobody saves anything, lights left on, engines running, drugs used needlessly, etc.
The Mayors family run everything, they missed an election, the rival gave in and disappeared.
Usual sloppy American sentimental garbage.

What everyone else says. It's more Dawson's Creek than Threads, you know, the kind of show that needs yet another fracking Snow Patrol or Goo Goo Dolls song on in the background to beef up the supposed emotion, whereas we don't really care about the quandary of which one of the female cast Skeet Ulrich might be getting his end away with (because ohhh he's mysterious and such *damaged goods*), or what's happening with some personal friction between the mayor and one of his competitors, or whether there might be a bit of unrequited love happening with a couple of the teenagers, or if someone may leave his wife for his mistress. Why not? BECAUSE THERE'S BEEN NUKES DROPPED ON THE COUNTRY AND EVERYTHING ELSE KIND OF PALES INTO COMPARISON.

Sorry. Remember when Lost started, and you got a little bit frustrated that it was a teensy bit slow? That maybe nothing is being resolved, you don't really want to see flashbacks cos they're kind of ignoring the enormity of their situation? Imagine that times ONE THOUSAND. And you have Jericho. A watered down flippant humourless sentimental romantic teenage action-free drama-free post-apocalyptic drama. With that guy from Scream.

Well, at the moment the townsfolk have had very little contact withthe outside world so they don't really understand what is happening and how much the world they knew has really changed. Following the visit from Ravenwood they may start to actually begin to realise what the world they knew has gone and things are really going to change.

At some point they will realise that the only real cvilisation in their part of the world is Jericho and they are going to have to defend it against all comers and that will mean the Mayor will need to start governing the town, setting up their own courts and imposing their own justice plus they will need to centralise the towns strategic assets ie weapons, food, vehicles, fuel etc.

Credit to those sticking with it, they've got more patience than I do. My take is that we're watching a TV show, not a fly-on-the-wall documentary where the makers have to wait for something to happen. Even if their strategy is to have a long, slow-burning plot, they've absolutely failed to supply anything gripping - either story or characters - to keep people interested in the meantime.

That said, the premise is interesting enough that I'll be keeping an eye on the threads on here so I know what's going on - I'd be quite happy to pick this up at a later date, when the townsfolk have retreated to caves, formed a primitive society based around the barter of bone-based jewelery, and launch guerrilla attacks on the invading Canadian army. Which is what should have happened in Episode 4.

So.. I've just watched up to episode 6. I agree with all the comments I've read here about it being slow and soapy and basically a bit rubbish. Is it worth sticking with? Does it change to be something different (which I may like), or not..?

The second half does get better IMO but the smalltown drama crap does sometimes get in the way.

I can't remember if it's around episode 13 or 14, but essentially there's a watershed episode where all the smalltown soap is dispensed with and the story turns to the town's fight for survival.
