Some of the "facts" in that story are quite different from the programme. Weird.

Thanks for the info Baz, not too far from me at all really. Might factor Hellifield Peel into a future hike as it says there is a public footpath that runs past it - lovely countryside around there and a chance to have a snoop as well!

The architects voice though. I could picture him saying something like

"well at that point basically I thought my entire family were about to get crushed by the walls, but we soldiered on"..

Excellent start to the new series, could have been longer though as ages was spent making it safe therefore leaving little time for the remainder of the house/detailing.

Yes, someone got their timings wrong because I was just sitting there thinking this HAS to be a 2-parter. Nowhere near enough info on the internal fit.

Agreed, I still can't believe that they have only spent £750k :

Initially they bough it for £175k (or something around that), the oak staircase cost them £50k, archaeologist £20k, the stonemasons cost £2k per week, and god knows what electricians, plumbers (with that fancy heating system), and plasterers would have charged on a house that big.

Did English Heritage give them some money??

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some fiddling going on - after all of Kevin's bemoaning of trying to get consent for alterations to scheduled ancient monuments taking "years" - they got theirs in a mere 3 months (when some simple listed building consent can take a year), plus when the main internal wall came down it only took him 1 week to get the new consent - seemed WAY too easy IMO...he must have had dealings with them in the past, or they were in each other's pockets somehow...

It all seems a bit evasive if you ask me. No direct reference to where it is, strange finances etc etc.
But I don't blame the bloke to be honest because I wouldn't want a lot of oiks knowing my business, peering through my windows and traipsing up to my front door wanting a look around.

I saw this webpage on the Grand Designs Ch4 webbo and assumed it was called Skipton Castle from what it says under 'Location'.

I watched a bit of that and they had two bitches on complaining that his designs were boring and he should have built his house out of glass inside the wals of the ruined castle (or some such ***** suggestion).

I didn't think much of the sofa part of the More 4 show either, but the outside reports on other castles and stuff were quite interesting.

Anyone see last nights? Thought it ended up as a lovely place but wouldn't like to be paying that mortgage every month...Over 500k

One thing i noticed at the beginning they were looking around the burnt out shell of the house and all wearing hard hats...however the woman was carrying their baby around in her arms with no protection on...what was that all about Surely one of the crew could have looked after her for them while they were showing Kevin around

Normally if your house insurance lapses they send you out reminders, I would of been totally gutted though if I had been in that situation so fair play to them.

Excellent house. Don't think I would of taken the risks they did though i.e ordering the oak before getting finance in place or putting that reed on the roof before approval, etc.

I thought the bit on the More 4 program afterwards about the new roof construction and how fireproof it was was interesting, didn't understand why they didn't put that on the main program.

I watched this last night and although they ended up with a nice house I though it was a bit bland looking. Wouldn't mind owning it though
