A girl called Eddy - General discussion thread

I've mentioned this album on a couple of threads before but I can't believe how brilliant her debut is.
It's a fairly late evening album with her influences being Karen Carpenter,Chrissie Hynde and Dusty Springfield.
It's certainly a grower as it took me a couple of listens to warm to but I have been playing it daily since.I have a few new albums to listen to but I'm leaving them until I fancy a rest from this one.
I'm looking forward to her gig at The Enterprise in Camden on thursday.I'll also probably see her In Edinburgh on August the 20th as I'm in Scotland during that period.

I completely agree. Wonderful album. I've described it to a few a friends and it doesn't come across too well, but when they listened to it they were blown away. The fact that she sounds like Karen Carpenter, sometimes has a glossy 70's style production and is full of slowies means it sounds like many peoples worst nightmares but for some reason it just comes across as utterly refreshing, complex and quite beautiful!

It's prodcued by Richard Hawley too so what more reason does anyone need to not rush out and buy!!

Sounds pretty dull on first listen I have to say...I'll give it a chance though.

I admit the album is a grower, give it time.
That is one of the better tracks on the album though,so if you don't like it...

I bought the album recently, however I did download it first via a file sharing programme.
I listened to the tracks originally but wasn't too fussed.I only went back to it as people were downloading the album constantly from me.So I went with the crowd!

It works both ways!
You have to spend some time with it and suddenly you'll get all the hooks and excellent arrangements etc...

Just back from seeing her play at the Enterprise.
Excellent gig, playing to a packed audience of about 50!!
It was a stripped down acoustic affair with Erin singing and playing keyboards/guitar,another guitarist, drummer and bass player.
She played about two thirds of the album with a couple of other tracks thrown in.
Although it was an amazing gig I did feel short changed during "The long goodbye".As I said previously, the album has a lot of hooks, one of my favourites being the "Nobody loves you like I do" in the "The long goodbye".It's repeated a few times on the album but she only sang it once live.Damn!!
I must say she was a lot older than I expected and did remind me of a slightly younger Chrissie Hynde.
Looking forward to her support slot in Edinburgh now...

Back from another excellent gig at the Albany.
This time it was slightly more electric and an even more enjoyable occasion.
I spoke to Eddy for the second time and look forward to her next London date...

She's playing Manchester Life Cafe on the 27th of September,
Bush Hall in London on the 28th and Birmingham Glee Club on the 29th.
There may be more dates as I took the dates from an ad in the NME.
Maybe other promoters will be promoting her in other towns.
I'm in two minds about going as although I'd love to see her again I hate Bush Hall as a venue. If she schedules a Scottish date at the weekend I may go to that...
