A blatant foul not given by VAR.

Still we can hope that Atkinson has decided to play 45 minutes for each side - and we will get every decision in the 2nd half because we have got absolutely **** ALL in that first half

VAR is poor, it either intervenes or doesn’t. None of this obvious error rubbish.

Do see that foul given lots, so I see your point, but McTominary hesitates and waits for the ref to rule before he plays on. I'd be annoyed if it had happened to us, but equally I'd have been annoyed if it had been ruled out so far from the goal.

Distance from goal is irrelevant - it was a clear foul for 99% of refs - just not corrupt ones

Hmmm ... so much for the hope that Atkinson would start playing for Liverpool in the 2nd half.

The problem isn’t really VAR as such, but the half arsed way it has been introduced. They changed the hand ball rule, so VAR can intervene, but for a foul it will only intervene if it’s obvious, because they don’t want to undermine the ref. Clearly that’s utter rubbish. Either have VAR or don’t.

Absolutely awful for most of the game - as always at OT - but could have sneaked the 3pts at the end.

A half decent ref and we would have won despite being awful

Someone at the FA needs to organise a suicide watch for Atkinson - he looked gutted when Lallana scored. Could have sworn he checked with the VAR half a dozen times pleading with him to change his mind

We definitely missed Salah, but then what team wouldn’t
A draw was probably about right, we were the better team, but didn’t create enough.

Should've got a really decent option up front in the summer to rotate with the front three.

Some games we have been fine; Norwich, Arsenal and Chelsea for example. But we have ridden our luck in others.

Alisson has been an underrated miss at times and we certainly missed Salah today.

It is also not as if we have had an easy run of fixtures either ( unlike some other team down the M62 )

Norwich was a sloppy second half. Chelsea was a poor last half hour.

won 8 out of 8 without him (apart from 20 minutes vs Norwich) so not sure we've missed him too much

Yes we did but, arguably, not with a very confident defence at times.

Someone put it well on Talksport this morning, the best Liverpool team in 30 years couldn't beat the worst United team in 30 years. When City play United they will demolish them, then suddenly those 6 points are our two City games, we need to win at least one, otherwise suddenly our great start will have been for nothing.

Although we've been winning, we've been winning ugly for too long, I'll confess a little seed of doubt crept into my mind yesterday.

We were winning ugly at the start of last season.
City might demolish Utd, but then they lost to Norwich

Indeed, but you see how quickly this could be turned around when you look at it, we still rely on City losing/drawing...

Maybe we should wait until City have actually played more than 1 hard game ( which they didn't actually manage to win ) ? By the end of the Liverpool v City game, we would have already played the rest of of last year's Top 6 - City only 2.
City still rely on Liverpool losing at least twice. I would much rather be in our position, at the moment, than their's

Yesterday's result made no difference to whether we have to win at least one of the City games ... last year's results/final table made that abundantly clear before the season even started.

And as Ravioli says, City might well thrash United ( they might not ) but they have also already been played off the park by Norwich who we beat without breaking a sweat

I also love how "winning ugly" is usually the sign of a title winning side except when it is Liverpool doing it

This is the same Liverpool who now haven't won at OT for 6 years and only won once in 14 visits? And yet were expected to win with ease? Maybe we would have with a half decent ref and a VAR system that worked

You can't win every game, on paper this looked like a winner but in reality these games are always tough. City has lost more games already than we probably expected all season.

You go to United get a point, it's not a bad result.
