I wonder how safe Albon’s seat is now... methinks less so

What a great finish that was. Fantastic for Gasly! What a wonderful comeback after his issues last year.

First French winner since Panis... wow!

As for the race... just like that Canada race with the degrading tyres all those years ago I expect F1 are going to try and add aspects of this by regulation.

You know it would never happen . Why would the top teams agree but the idea of starting in reverse order from the week before result would be amazing . Plots and sub plots every week.

Much like Ferrari’s Vito on EVERYTHING, the teams shouldn’t get a say, our game our rules.

I liked the idea of a sprint race on Saturday after qualifying, in reverse grid order. Half constructors points only (and get rid of FP3).

I'd propose a compromise: have a mixture of formats i.e. Q1/2/3, single lap, one hour, and reverse championship qualifying races throughout the year - and don't tell the teams which one it will be until shortly before the session.

Yeh you cannot just mess with the format in an attempt to get people who think its boring to like it. I'm sure I've said it before, but my wife doesn't like it because its cars going round a track. There is only so much you can do to tinker with it before it becomes a joke in an attempt to get higher ratings.

You're not losing anything from the format though. You'd be swapping FP3 for a short sprint race on a Saturday which more younger people might watch, especially if it's reverse order.

The purists still get the main event on a Sunday.

Must be worth a shot imo.

The sport is always changing be it banning Turbos and refuelling, Changing pts system etc . Sometimes they change something and put it back again (car widths). If the changes don't work or don't have desired effect then they will bin them.

The sport today is a far cry from were it started and will always evolve

I do wonder about some of these long shot bets, I know they're long shots but I really don't think they're as long and I wonder how often they'd come up. I guess this is harder to predict, but nice for someone.

It’s a bit more than that - the ‘plan’ is not for an extra fun race, but for this reverse grid race to be the new qualifying.

You can see why Mercedes would be against it, if they're likely to win, he'll be at the back for qualifying. He'd be behind some fairly decent cars. Whereas if you get a DNF in a fairly decent car, you've got a great chance of winning the next race.

The problem is what people consider to make more exciting, is grossly unfair on the best teams. I can't see any real change being made.

You have the fastest car, but you lose the championship to a car that DNF's every other race.

I don't like it replacing qualifying at all.

Yeh it's gonna be a sprint race, so I'd guess no pit stops or anything. 15 laps? How much of the field are people realistically gonna catch up from the back? Sounds like mayhem, and it might be fun to watch, you'll see some overtaking. I guess you might see a bit more in the race as the fastest cars try and carve through the field they didn't manage before.

In my own head simulation of a season, just don't see it being very fair and people would employ dubious tactics.

Lewis would win the first race, start at the back, maybe get himself up to 12th, possibly finish fourth, then pretty much start again but starting 4th from the back.

Best you could do is win the first race, don't bother with the second race so you start first for the third race, win it and repeat.

You'd certainly get people who get a puncture and the likes, just giving up.

You'll get more desperate lunges and collisions as people try to make up places. It'd be carnage. You could easily get taken out of qualifying because someone lunged up the side of you. Teams will want to use maximum engine power because it's essentially all qualifying, which means more failures long term. How would VSC or safety cars affect the length or the race, etc. The top teams would likely have to settle for not all being in the top two rows on a regular basis.

It's just a **** idea.

The world champ will still come from the top teams. It would just mean with all the variables there is no procession to it and The odd winner from lower teams .

Even if they fail to score it’ll only mean they’ll have a higher grid slot for the next qualifying race, so they will win again
