Is the new series been show immediately on Channel 5, or will we have to wait a month or something?

I haven't heard of anything about it being limited? Perhaps something to do with season 8 being faulty worldwide where it is too dark (some people have managed to fiddle with setting to get it watchable).

A nice preview for the new episodes:

This has whetted my appetite for more X-Files.

I'm up to episode 5 on it, think I only got as far as season 6 last time, will try and stick it out longer this time.

Not seen a single advert for it and it has already been on for two days. It is on Monday to Friday presumably for the next 4 weeks.

It's a shame Millennium didn't get released. Under appreciated show.

Been a very long time since I've seen it, but I agree. Would love to see it again.

That was another show which suffered due to uncertainty over whether or not it would be renewed due to poor ratings. Very dark, but there was just something about the whole thing that was spot on in terms of the tone, the acting and they judged the balance between individual episodes/storylines with the bigger arc about the Millennium Group very well.

I bought the DVDs a few years ago and am only now watching them, and season 2 was fantastic TV. The way it shifted from regular crime, to supernatural over the course of the first season and a half was brilliant. Season 3 is a chore though, so you can see why it was given up on. It also seems a lot tamer than I remember, but that could be because of the age of cable TV we now live in e.g. HBO etc. Still cracking entertainment and deserving of a better reputation than it seems to have.

I think part of the problem was that season 2 was supposed to be the end as there wasn't going to be a season 3 so they had to come up with an ending. And then they get renewed having killed off certain characters and letting the virus plot line running its course.

Season 2 was never supposed to be the end. No network show at the time was ever designed to last less episodes than it took to make syndication (which is when they really started to generate profit - 100 episodes usually)

Ratings wise it grew steadily throughout the first season but remained a cult hit - in season 2 rating increased week by week ending up significantly better than season 1 - it also garnered 7 emmy noms in season 2.

Season 2 is a massive change tonally too. It becomes a lot more comedic and light, at least up to half way through it.

The ending of season 2 of Millennium makes no sense if Morgan and Wong didn't think it was going to be cancelled, because they completely wrote themselves into a corner, which is why season 3 is so unsatisfying and flaps around all over the place. It also completely guts Peter Watts, unforgivably.

Oh. I thought we were talking about the x-files! That'll teach me to not go back a page!

Apologies to ascender - he was quite right, millennium was pretty much dead by the end of S2 (I found season 3 utterly unwatchable)

Lol, i was getting confused there for a minute too! What I meant was that I think they knew they weren't going to be renewed at some point in S2 and so saw that storyline out to a conclusion which kind of backed them in to a corner.
