Great price for a classic show, but if it makes any difference to some of you there are strong rumors of these being re-mastered and coming out on Blu Ray soon:

The X-Files Coming to Blu in 2013?
he Truth is...on Blu?

According to The Digital Bits, a number of "industry sources" have told them that FOX plans on releasing their ground-breaking sci-fi series The X-Files on Blu-ray sometime in late 2013. Yes, the sexual tension between Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully is about to get clearer than ever!
With the first four seasons of X-Files produced in 4x3 format, and with FOX itself not even broadcasting in HD until 2004 (two years after X-Files left the air), it's clear that some work needs to be done. The sources have told Digital Bits that FOX plans on rebuilding the series for Blu-ray HD much like CBS did with Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

If it follows the same speed as the TNG remastering (TNG S3 is only just being released) it'll be 2020 before we see all 9 seasons in HD.

TNG is 4 seasons for the first year so 2 years for the whole collection. S4 is July with S5 around November, S6 around April and S7 around July/August.

X Files on DVD came out every 6 months and paid £70 per season. The PQ could be better on DVD, it suffers from de-interlacing issues but at £45 is a right bargain.

[DVD] x files complete £45.44 at amazon

Available at Amazon.co.ukfor £45.44 at the moment.
Very tempted by this but still undecided if I can watch 200 episodes if the picture quality is not 100%. Watched it on tv for the first few series and started to lose track around the time of the first movie. Was always my intention to catch up someday but should I wait for the bluray??

Atm, the Blu Ray will have likely have some upscaling. Hopefully it will be just upscaling scenes with special effects like with Firefly.

This is what the combing effect is like on the x files dvd's.
