Preacher (AMC)

I'd love to see this happen - HBO are really the only ones who could ever try and do this justice.

Can't see it happening, least of all in god-fearing USA.
If they do it, they won't do it justice!

That would be fantastic but I cant see them doing it for many reasons. Christian zelots for one, and characters like arseface and people's faces ripped off and nailed back upside down....makes great comics but would never be passed for tv undiluted and so pointless.

There is no reason why this would not go ahead, unless HBO thought it would not take off. All this talk about it not being made because of some powerful Christian lobby is rubbish. The Book of Daniel, a show which would be considered blasmouphs was made this year and do I need to mention The Davinci Code? Besides, HBO are more likely to take a risk than any other network.

I'm not sure this would translate very well to the small screen, but I droppped out of the comic scene back when this book was a year old, so not sure how it all concluded.

Greatest comic book ever

Maybe even my favourite book...

I'd be interested to see how it transferred onto TV, but I really don't see how they could do it justice. I just can't think of a one-eared, one-eyed, one-legged dickheaded eunich suitable to play Herr Starr.

Mark Steven Johnson (Director of Daredevil and upcoming Ghost Rider) does a monthly biog feature for Empire. Think I remember in the April edition that he was asked how he would cast potential comic adaptions of Watchmen, Captain America and Preacher. He hoped/suggested/guessed that HBO should do an adaption of Preacher as he thought a movie just wouldnt do it justice!

If this happened & was faithful to the comic, it would be the BEST. TV-Show. EVER!

Certainly a much better idea to do a mini-series or multiple seasons rather than just a movie which has been on the cards for years.

The cast for the movie that will never be was supposedly going to be Ben Affleck as Jesse Custer, Robert Carlyle as Cassidy, Cameron Diaz as Tulip, and Samuel L Jackson as The Saint Of Killers.

Oh God no! Ben Affleck??? Robert Carlye, maybe, Cameron Diaz could work but SLJ is too cool to be the Saint of Killers. You need someone who is believably despicably bad, not cool bad.

I can't see it being made, not without some pretty serious revision.

The last 1/4 of the tale was pretty weak, and definately not as strong as the earlier parts of the series.

as for casting, I've pictured the following:

Jesse: Michael Keaton (thougha bit old now)
Tulip: Naomi Watts

I'd love to see this get made, but I can't see it at all. They simply wouldn't have the cajones to do it.

I agree with that. I read the story in bits and pieces and it was quite a while after I first starting reading till I got to the end and I was dissapointed. I felt a bit let down and I guess they just couldnt figure out how to end well after raising their own bar so high.

Most of it is fantastic though.

Wasn't 'The Book of Daniel' axed partly due to lobbying from Christian Groups? News articles on the IMDB seem to back this up, 8 eps were produced but only 4 were aired. I've never seen it, so I have no idea if it was any good or not.

That was the fans list. They actually had the no mark that plays Cyclops in the X-Men as Jesse and the director was the genius behind Tank Girl the movie.

Thankfully they never found the funding.

Hehe, ARSEFACE!

This is apparently from a makeup test for the canned movie.

It was a mooted cast before the Tank Girl director got involved, I think.
