Agreed. I wish there was another team opening for both JB and KM, and they both tell mclaren to shove it, leaving them driverless.
But it's a buyer's (constructors) market at the moment, so they can get away with this nonsense.

I'd definitely be sorting out something else if I was JB then waiting and telling McLaren to go jump if they offered him a drive.

A very poor way to treat both drivers.
It just makes the management look a shambles. But then again they have underperformed so much the last few years relatively speaking that it is no great surprise.

"Sources say the decision is solely down to chairman Ron Dennis and there is no specific timeframe within which it will be made"

Ridiculous. C'mon Ron, have some balls and stop stringing people along ad infinitum.

Can't see how Dennis coming back has made things any better. For his faults, and I didn't think he was that bad, at least Whitmarsh would have made a decision by now!

Its terrible what they are doing to him but it does mean one thing, he must still be in the running for the seat.... unless they dropped him and now are deciding between Kevin and Stoffel Vandoorne but don't want to make it look to promising for them yet...?

I can only imagine whats going on behind closed doors.

Team Alonso : "We don't want Button"
Team Dennis : "We DO want Button"

2 immovable objects don't go very far

You reckon? He didn't seem too excited by the idea during the press question last week

According to James Allen, Alonso privately said yes. Button would help developing the car more quickly as well... which means Alonso is more likely to have a winning car by 2016.

For Dennis, if he kicks out KM after a season what does it say about the McLaren programme for developing drivers? (especially when you compare it to what Red Bull are doing) Plus paying KM £10 million less would help the books (remember McLaren had no title sponsor this year).

He's wants a team mate that is going to get him another championship - and that means (for next year at least) helping to develop the new Honda engine.

Button is easy enough to get along with. Plus who would Alonso rather be beaten by next season (if he did get beaten by his teammate) - a former World Champion who has outscored all of his team mates at McLaren or a young driver in his second season?

A team mate that is going to help him get a world championship is someone eager to please the team and do his bidding, not a former world champion racing for fun at the end of his career, IMO.

You can bet your bottom dollar Alonso will not give a second thought to who he would prefer to lose to, it's not in his make up.

Button saved them $5 million by performing the way he did though as they finished 5th in the constructors. I'd have thought in marketing terms he's a big draw especially in Japan and therefore for Honda.

I only found out the other day Button is only 18 months older than Alonso - and Kimi is the oldest driver on the grid.

You're probably right about Alonso and losing though.

No announcement until next week anyway - obviously not as straightforward and everyone else seems to think.

There must be more to it, that we're not privy to...

Benefit of the doubt..
Because, as presented, this is an appalling demonstration of MacLaren management process.
