Testing at Jerez starts today.
How ironic that testing starts today here in Spain, yet we still don't know who will be broadcasting the races. An announcement is due today, but that's been said before.....

A lot of teams - probably all except McLaren - have gone for the 'stepped' nose but it seems to me that only Red Bull have tried to make something of it. Their nose-step seems to have some sort of air-intake gizmo and that, combined with that vertical 'fin' in the middle looks different from any other car. Knowing Newey, it might have some sort of aerodynamic idea behind it.

do you mean broadcast the races in spain, as in a spanish tv network?

red bull's nose vent is apparently for cooling kers. f-duct type device aren't allowed.

So where does it go after it's cooled the kers? Over the rear wing?

I like the way Ferrari have put the car number on the step and no step on the Merc....well not much of one, or the HRT but thats more likely cos they can't afford one.

Yep, that's what I meant. This afternoon the network was announced and, thankfully, it does broadcast in HD. Out here the only sport that gets more viewers than F1 is football.

Known car so it gives them data on the new tyres plus some test parts. That's the general party line anyway

Knowing Newey, that slot will likely send air to the back of the car somewhere to help the aero. I seriously doubt it's to cool the drivers as he claimed today.

Richard Williams on the step-noses debate:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog...se-formula-one

He seems to think that the odd-one-out McLaren is an anachronism.

even though by the end of the article he clearly states it will have no influence on the speed of the cars? that article was as pointless an exercise as one could ever imagine.

"the mclaren didn't look like the rest of the cars...

...

blah... blah... blah...

...

actually, i have no idea what's going to happen."

top work there, richard.

That article starts with the ridiculous statement "Ferrari nose best" - simply not true, its either the ugliest or 2nd ugliest car out there - period.

And then the article goes downhill, and they say journalism is dead

That gallery really highlights how dreadful most of the new designs are, looks wise. Boxy fronts, that hideous step...
