He is right about one thing though, the stepped noses are a non issue in terms of speed The only reason the teams are having them are to comply with new regs, it's not like they are the f-duct or EBD.
Yeah you are probably right. Not worth the effort

Three launches today, sauber, toro Rossi and the big one red bull. Firstly the sauber looks quite conventional, and they've gone for pull rod rear suspension set up, so pretty much the same as everyone. Out of all the cars so far, the Ferrari looks the most radical IMO. Pull rod front suspension, aggressive back end and side pods. Fingers crossed it will work

Yes, they have. Is it a compromise by several teams to fit their design into the new regulations or have McLaren missed a trick here? If the latter case, will they be allowed to change the design mid-season?

They've got a month, as Martin said this car will look very different come race day.

If lowering the nose was the prime objective, I wonder why the teams did not opt for a smooth downward curve rather than that non-aerodynamic looking sharp 'step'?

Like many of its rival teams, Red Bull’s designers have gone for a step down to the low nose, keeping the main chassis level high, to improve airflow to the vanes, around the sidepods and to the floor or the car. Red Bull were the team that led the way in this line of aerodynamic thinking and most other teams have followed, but not McLaren, the odd ones out.

There is a school of thought that McLaren did not need to do the stepped nose because they anticipated the 2012 rules in their 2011 design and thus have an already well sorted concept. But more of that another time.

There is a thread going on in Planet F1 forum about what Vettel would call his RB8. Some interesting names have been suggested.

still quite touchy about that aren't you, i wonder why. guilty conscience, maybe.

and if i'm so right why are people like reccie reading so much into a non-issue.

yes, i do. do you? you infer, YOU. the whole point is what YOU inferred because you didn't understand what the step nose was doing.

Simply letting him know that you'll spam this thread with rhetoric until he either gives up or admits defeat. Logic and reason doesn't come in to it anywhere.

Moving away from that, Toro Rosso's car looked really tight at the back end. I hope they can move solidly into the midfield this season, I've liked the team since the Minardi days On slightly related news, Jaime Alguersauri ha said he was offered a 2012 race seat, but turned it down as he'd made a verbal agreement to stay on at Toro Rosso this year. He sounds a little miffed by the whole thing

Alguersuari said he was given verbal confirmation during Brazil that he would be driving for Toro Rosso in 2012, and so declined another 'very good' offer.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97359

Sad to say, I have no doubt that they would tell him he had a safe seat then drop him.
