Scottish Football Thread 2012/13 Season

Season is just 35 mins away from kicking off - unless your Dundee Utd and have already been knocked out of the UEFA cup!

The rookie McCoist is taking on the old hand Lennon this year.

Rangers have made two of their biggest signings of the season - McGregor and Davis on long term deals. We have another will he - won't he situation this year, this time with Cuellar opposed to Jelavic. Rangers probably need to sign a few new faces still to beef up the squad. Will be interesting to see if Lee Wallace can stay fit or if he continues his injury jinx.

Celtic haven't lost anyone of any significance and have signed a couple of extra players. Bookies have them as favorite this season, as they have for the last 3 years.

Hearts look like they could do the business this year with a couple of great signings. Until Romanov presses his big red self destruct button that is.

Hopefully a bit less off field nonsense and arguments this season.

Predictions for this year -
Champions - Rangers
League Cup - Hearts
Scottish Cup - Celtic
Relegated - Kilmarnock

Ranger 1 Hearts 1.

Great start from Hearts, first-half performance in particular was excellent. Good point at a venue they rarely turn up at.

Shocking first half performance from Rangers, we were lucky to only be 1 down at half time. 2nd half was better and we had chances to win it but can't really grumble given the way the game went. It does highlight the fact we could do with some fresh faces in.

LOL wouldn't suprise to hear some numbskulls saying that if we don't get a win in the european game!

Wasn't that impressed with Ortiz on his first showing, doesn't appear to have a left foot and the young Hearts player had him in his pocket for most of the game. Wasn't impressed with McCulloch either, should only be him OR Edu playing, not both.

The rape case against Goodwillie has been chucked out. Should be interesting to see if Rangers act sooner rather than later and put in a decent bid for him. The guy has the talent to be a class act but really needs to stop all the off field antics

Supposedly 10 teams have contacted Dundee United already since the case was dropped, including Rangers and Blackpool.

Dreadful result & no doubt there will be cries for Coisty to go already from the hardcore fans.

Decent 1-1 away draw for Hearts tonight in the Europa qualifying round. Had enough possession to win, still not quite got a cutting edge yet - but we haven't even played at home yet and still have big Kevin Kyle to come back, with Sutton still bedding in.

Should put Paksi away at home, but they did well away to Tromso 3-0 after a 1-1 draw.

First win as Rangers boss for McCoist but some strange choices - Papac left midfield, Wylde on as a sub on the right and Edu and McCulloch again being the central midfield but at least he subbed them both.

Goodwillie deal has been off and possibly on again. We've made apparently 4 bids now with the last one being lower in add-ons than Blackburns offer and interestingly it doesn't say it's been rejected. The player is on his way down south but hopefully won't sign anything today anyway. He is well aware Rangers want him and although Blackburn are playing in a better league than the SPL, they are never going to be competing for anything domestically and unlikely to be involved in europe much either.

Big test for Ally in the return leg against Malmo. We are going to need to score twice against them. It's entirely possible and providing we don't conceed more than 1 over there, we have a decent chance. Our strikers still not 100% sharp but both netted and Jelavic in particular had a great finish. Still very much in the balance though and they did look a dangerous team on attack.

Just been announced that Maribor have made a complaint to Uefa over Carlos Bocanegra's appearance for Rangers in the UEFA qualifier tie last week.

After that game a Celtic fan apparently contacted the Slovenian embassy with the following

Quote:
FAO: The Cultural Attaché

Dear Sir or Madam

I think it appropriate to draw the following fact to your attention.

When Maribor FC of Slovenia played Rangers on Thursday last the Scottish club fielded an ineligible player.

The US citizen Bocanegra was signed just before the match, but he does not have the necessary visa to play for the club in the UK.

This should have rendered him ineligible for the match but he was included in the side anyway by the Rangers' management team, and played in the game.

Despite being a proud citizen of Scotland I am also an upholder of the Corinthian spirit, and a fierce defender of the rules of fair play.

As such I feel strongly that this flagrant breach of UEFA rules should be brought to the attention of the Maribor club and to UEFA. This should certainly result in the tie being awarded to the Slovenians.

I remain

Yours faithfully

"in the UK" is the bit the idiot should have paid attention to in his own email

Rangers are saying they had the relevant clearance and he wasn't playing in Scotland or the UK however we shall see what happens, if found guilty then I would expect them to be kicked out the competition. Nice to see some celtic fans are picking up where they left off though.

UEFA have kicked out Maribor's claim against Rangers. Hopefully it will fire Rangers up and we will put in a decent performance. I know Naismith is suspended for this, but hopefully it won't see McCulloch coming back in. He slows the game far too much. Would much rather Edu playing alongside Davis in the middle.

Wylde has also signed a new 4 year deal, hopefully it will push him forward and improve his overall game.

Well pretty much a disaster for Scottish football tonight. No teams left in europe before September.

Ranger had more than enough chances to win tonight and probably deserved a penalty too but some bad finishing has put them out. Genuinely thought we would win 1-0 then hold on for dear life. Suprised Celtic got knocked out but 1-0 down and a man sent off in the first minute was a major setback.

None of Rangers big players did it tonight. Jelavic, Davis and even Lafferty of late should all be ones that can do something special. Ortiz was hopeless again, when I slagged him before it was cause he didn't have a left foot, well on tonights showing then he doesn't have a right either. I'm seeing a Capucho or Sionko mark 2 here.

Just in from the game and I still can't believe Healy's miss, honestly one of the worst I've ever seen. As you say we had the chances and bottled it.

Thats going to be the norm from now on. European nights will be limted to qualifying games and the CL group stages reduced to but a dream.
