It really is great. Some of the coins are almost impossible to get first play through, and others require you to have a specific power-up/suit to get to them, or to be playing in multiplayer to bounce on top of another player etc. to reach them...

Lots of replay value, and extra incentive to get every star-coin since

Got this yesterday, had a few hours play and am loving it so far. Must say its a lot harder than I expected, especially when collecting the star coins.

It does seem a bit too simple to collect extra lives though, I had 25 by the time I finished world 1.

It's usually pretty easy to amass lives in the Mario games.

Played the first few levels of this and it's much like the DS equivilant. There was a genuine lol moment when I realised that the enemies were dancing in time to the music

I'd like this, but with it not allowing the use of GC controllers it's too expensive for me at the moment. I only have two wiimotes and would want the full four-player experience. Doesn't help being out on the same day as Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 either for me.

That's a massive oversight for something that's quite a major new game mechnic isn't it? Doesn't make a difference to me because I've always loved Mario games, but I don't think my mate will bother now.

Well most reviews say it's first and foremost a single player game with the multiplayer put in for a bit of fun which often turns into a bit of a cluster****. So it's not a game designed completely around multiplayer as such thankfully.

Same here. I couldn't wait to get the game set up when I got it home, and was saying to my boyfriend that I hoped they had included some original music. I had the most stupid grin on my face when I realised the enemies had obviously thought the same

Agree with other comments on the difficulty level, although it normally doesn't take you very long to work out what you are doing wrong and rectify things - I find its my impatience and trigger happy jumping is normally responsible!

Can anyone confirm if the sole reason to rescue the Toads is for extra lives? His "Hellllllllllllp" is annoying but revisiting levels I have just completed isn't that enticing, as yet.

Got this for xmas so plan to dust off the Wii next week to have a play. Is it in the same league as Mario 3 or Super Mario World?

Jesus Christ this is tough. I know its only classic Mario but hell, so easy to die. Finding the levels where you have to go BACKWARDS to do them again but carrying Toad through impossible. Only done one. Having to hold down the button all the time to hold him is hard enough but then jumping into things and having him die, its like, why am i still playing this level, he is dead. So i find myself losing countless lives on levels i've already done and i'm not even sure why. And the baddies you bump into in the world hub parts, just go away already!

Still fun though

Completed this ( minus star coins) and it was fantastic fun. The thing that surprised me, as many have said, is the difficulty. Its Mario as you know and love but by around world 6 I found the difficulty ramped right up. I uttered probably more expletives at the final Boswer battle than I have done throughout my life...

But true to the brilliance of the design I am already diving straight back in to collect all the star coins. There is a serious amount of replayability in this and the multiplayer has added to that. There are some moments where having more than one person on the screen is a nightmare and you'll question the logic of the multiplayer but overall it works very well.....and picking your mate up and throwing them into a lava pit never gets old

Would you believe that until tonight I had never in my life played a 2D Mario game. The first Nintendo console I owned was the N64 and then the GameCube, having previously owned the Sega Master System and Megadrive. I loved Mario 64 and liked Mario Sunshine to a degree but somehow 2D Mario games passed me by.

So I made a decision to load this up before trying Mario Galaxy. Just superb, addictive, brilliant, gameplay. Still learning through trial and error what the power-ups do but I'm really glad I got this as well as Mario Galaxy.

Found this pretty boring and frustrating, expecially playing with the missus. Many a game ended in argument... Stupid that you could only temporarily save between castles and you couldn't take Yoshi's from level to level. The powerups were uninspired and the level design just ordinary. How hard is it to make a game on the current hardware that better Super Mario World on the SNES?

SMW is still the pinnacle of 2D platforming so I think it will be quite difficult.
Back to NSMB - I have to agree with a lot of the comments. Multiplayer is just a mess and detracts from the game.

One nice little touch I noticed was when you use the helicopter suit it blows the clouds away

I am a fan so far, excellent fun and I was enjoying playing with the missus, but it was frustrating at times (both jumping at the same time, hitting each other and falling down a hole for example). It's not Super Mario World, but then I doubt any platform game will reach that quality for me.
