That was fantastic and not as hard to follow as i thought it would be.

Loads of tits and sex helped too.

What was with all the incest?

I enjoyed it - not read the books here either, so the characters are a bit lost on me so far (which one was Jaime?) - but it's got me intrigued anyway, and I'll definitely be tuning in again next week.

I can't help smiling at this. If you think it is complex now, then I'd start taking notes

Jaime is the tall blond one who is the twin brother to the Queen.

Spoiler just for those that haven't watched the first episode yet (and what are you doing here then anyway?)

I disagree. He is close to how I pictured him.
Excellent first episode.
GoT followed by Spartacus. Wife was not best pleased with the amount of tits and sex on parade

Initial ratings not fantastic apparently.

Don't think notes will be necessary - I found the same with The Wire; that also introduced a large number of characters in a short space of time.

I don't know, the books have appendices with all the characters which I frequently had to refer to whilst reading them!

From the first episode you're told that Ned Stark has five children (when they find the dire-wolf pups) I challenge you to name them all... bit tough as one of them is not mentioned and I think the other is only named once! [Edit] Actually I think maybe two weren't named at all!

I thought it was a very good adaptation and most of the characters were well cast - although in my head I always had Jon (the ******* son) looking obviously different from the [other] Stark children and I didn't get that from the show.

Shorty

Is it safe to watch the George RR Martin "book" documentary that preceded the show, or is it full of spoilers?

i haven't watched the first episode or the documentary yet, and would rather wait to watch the documentary until I know I won't be too spoilt.

Thanks,

James

The George interview before the show appears spoiler-free.
Just watched and LOVED the first episode! Amazing title sequence.

A great little part that made me laugh out loud:

ARYA: Where's the imp?
SANSA: SHUT UP!

Seemed like a decent, faithful adaptation. A fair amount of dialogue was taken directly from the book (I'm re-reading GoT at the minute so it's still fresh in my mind), and everything looked pretty much as I expected to.

The kids were all older than the books (well, they certainly LOOK older, and Daenerys definitely was ), and Tyrion could have done to look a bit uglier...but other than that I was pretty happy.

I hope the ratings pick up though. It is a massively complex story, and I can just see casual viewers thinking "I can't be bothered remembering all this" and switching off. Which would be a big shame considering what will be coming up soon....

I thought this was superb and was very close of what i can remember of the first book so far.

Even down to the last line delivered by Jaime before the closing credits.

As you say the Imp could have done with looking uglier.
To those talking about the characters - it is massively complex at any one time spanning 3 different parts of the world at least.
It will be good going to keep abreast with who is who and how they tie in (hard enough having read the book!) but at least (based on yesterday) it will have been done with flair to hopefully keep us along for the ride

If anybody wants it, I made this for my girlfriend, which is a quick major character list with pics just so it's easier to keep track of who's who and how they relate to each other. There's quite a lot more characters, of course, but this is a good place to start. Maybe it can help somebody else.
