But there may be others out there we just don't know about yet!
I think we just need to focus on getting a striker that will score regularly, rather than worrying about what type of striker we get - Crouch and Bellamy will both be able to play with most other "moulds", so thats not an issue. If we buy another good striker we will never see Fowler next season unless 2 of the other 3 get injured.
Personally, of all the strikers we have been linked with and could realistically get, I think Anelka would be my preferred choice. His attitude can be called into question off the pitch, but the thought of him and Bellamy together would scare the hell out of most defences with their pace.

Yeah i agree! Anelka and Bellamy would be a nice partnership next season! They are both proven goal scorers at this level if, Rafa can get their temprements under control and i think he is the man to sort them both out!

Roll on the Anelka and Bellamy partnership, with Crouch coming off the bench if we need something different!

can't imagine it being fun when Rafa drops two sulky players playing 4-5-1 with Crouch up front.

I think Kuyt is more likely plus a cheaper right wing player like Pennant or Trablesi if fit.

I don't think Rafa's system utilises pace from 2 main strikers - it would leave us unable to hold the ball up again and taking on too much pressure again. Rafa's system prefers that 1 holdup man or second striker behind the main forward. Anelka and Bellamy just wouldn't work at all for Rafa.

I have more of an issue that it was Carra that was picked on as a bottler when both Lampard and Gerrard are far more used to taking penalities in pressure situations. Who shows more bottle in standing up to take a penalty, a regular penalty taker for club and known well striker of the ball or a defender who never takes them in competitive matches? He may have made a schoolboy error in hitting the first one before the whistle but I can't begin to imagine the sort of pressure he was feeling in his situation. Bad error - probably , bottler - no way IMO.

I still reckon Fowler is our most potent threat infront of goal, everyone hear seems to be talking about the others. Crouch is very important, but they are working to get Fowler super fit and I can't see anything but 15 goals+ from him in decent condition. I even thought of having a bet on him being top scorer in the Premiership!!! IMO It's his last chance to do anything with his beloved club, he knows that and he'll give it everything. Look at Zidane in this World Cup and how he got himself in top condition.

An on form and fit Fowler would be our most potent striker without doubt but how many years has it been since he was both in form and fit?

It's a matter of wait and see.

Zidane's playing in the world cup!?!?

I thought it was Cheyrou pulling the strings in midfield - I hear they are calling Zidane the old Cheyrou..........

I agree with you mate (had to happen sometime eh ). I think if Fowlers heart and head are in it this season he could be a real goal machine. Hopefully he has been working on his fitness during the down season and he is back in shape.

I reckon Crouch will still be the number 1 for Rafa with either Bellamy or Fowler as his partner.

No chance if we buy another striker, which looks almost certain to me. Fowler will be about Plan F if we do.

Yeah, Crouchy really is top class now, he was scoring some very important goals towards the end of last season and seems totally settled. England has done WONDERS for his confidence, I'm very optimistic as everything seems to be working better than we could of hoped.

Interesting point but I believe Rafa knows what he has in Fowler and can see the potential in him fully fit. He actually is quoted as saying he wanted Fowler get '50' this season!! The Gafa sounded like he was only half joking as well!!!

Yes a shame but if he is home sick what can you do?

Hopefully when he's older in a couple of years he'll want to come back to replace Finnan

So now the new season is getting is getting close who thinks we've made enough changes to the squad to seriously challenge for the title?

If I go with my head rather than my heart I'd say we can close the gap on Chelsea and possibly overtake ManU as second best in the Premiership but unless Chelsea suffer a big drop in form they are going to be champions again.

That's what I love about football though, you never really know what is going to happen during the course of a season. Our results against Chelsea may well turn out to be key this season - let's hope Schevchenko (sp?) finds it hard to adopt to the PL and that Lampard and Terry's world cup form carry through too!!
