Colour Me Kubrick

Only just spotted this one in production. Looks interesting.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376543/

"The true story of a man who posed as director Stanley Kubrick during the production of Kubrick's last film, Eyes Wide Shut, despite knowing very little about his work and looking nothing like him."

Stars John Malkovich and a shed load of well known British comedians and actors (too many to list here) and is directed by Brian Cook who was Kubrick's assistant director since the days of Barry Lyndon, and written by Anthony Frewin who was also an assistant to Kubrick.

There's a teaser trailer out at the moment which doesn't actually show much, but John Malkovich is always worth a watch.

I remember this event actually happening: my Kubrick-obsessed mate at Uni was very amused and made lots of jokes about how easy it was for any old hobo to stick on a fake beard, dishevel himself a bit and claim to be Stanley.

The thing is he never even stuck on a fake beard. He was in one of those 'people pretending to be celebrities' ITV shows back in 1998, and it was reported as all very amusing. What wasn't reported was the fact he was using this power to knob young boys.

Yeah, I remember that at the time too.

I also remember going to see Showgirls in Leicester Square once (don't laugh), and after the film started this big, slighty tubby scruffy guy shuffles in with a beard just the same as Stan had in the few photos in later years you saw of him. I'd swear it was Stan!

Funny enough he's the kind of person who being hardly recognised could get away with just walking into a Leicster square cinema without being pestered. Then again he'd more likely just order up a print to be screened at his home.

Didn't know that: I thought it was something akin to the "son of Sidney Poitier" syndrome.
