Match Of The Day---It's coming home----

I hated the Premiership, I hated Andy Townsend & Robbie Earle. I watched less premiership action over the last couple of years due to ITV and their woeful show.

YESSSSS its back !!!! der der der der der der

There is something special about MOTD even sky can't get a highlights programme to work like MOTD. A good presenter in Lineker with good pundits as well. No adverts which keeps you tuned in is also an advantage.

I would love them to used the old MOTD theme tune

Lineker is much much better.

Thumbs up

I too hated ITV and their selective choosing of football highlights.

I was absolutely livid when Wolves beat Middlesbrough 2-0 at home and they decided to show Chelsea v Everton 0-0, and Liverpool v Fulham 0-0 as their main games (along with Portsmouth beating Man Utd 1-0). We got our usual 30 seconds at the end of the show

I also hated Townsend, Earle and Atkinson. They couldn't talk about the game passionately if they tried.

I like the way the BBC pundits disagree with each other and take opposing views, especially Hansen. It gives a more rounded analysis. The only bad thing is the return of know-it-all tit Lawrenson.

Highlights for every match sounds excellent though, wish we could have had it last season when Wolves were there. Oh well, there's always next season

I quite liked the Premiership TBH

Plus i know Alan Hansen is going to rip Norwich apart and i hate him with a passion. And to anyone who says he knows what he is talking about I have yet to see/hear it.

He remarks on the game and how the teams are playing but has no technical knowledge of the game whatsoever. I think ITV (with Venables in particular) analysed the games better.

Yes Townsend and Earle were pretty crap but Schmeichel and Crooks and Redknapp arn't any better. Plus with Hansen and the the oher scouse (can't even remember his name) they are stuck in the dark ages (no change there for the Beeb)

With the new Sky hi light shows via the sky active I dont know how much of this I will watch.

But I'm glad its back on the BBC ,ITV were awful.Their selection of matches to show was shockingly biased at times.

Yes he's going to host a show on Radio 5 Live on Saturday lunchtime. Working for ITV never seemed to suit him as the advert breaks cramped his improvisational style by forcing him to work in little frames between breaks.

I'd prefer him to Lineker. GL is far too laddish and everything is too "knowing" for my liking. Plus Ian Wright is a complete idiot and Schmeichel too bad for words.

Des and Hansen would be the dream ticket.

All I can say is thank god the BBC has the rights back again. I'm not a fan of the premiership at the best of times (3rd division for me) but I would always find time to watch match of day of have the video recorder set when traveling back from some distant away match.

Thanks to ITV I have rarely watched top flight football for the duration they had the contract. It has led to several monday mornings at uni in the coffee shop with me looking puzzeled while my mates go on about the weekend's action and Chelsea's latest buy.

I hated ITV for many reasons but one of them was always, always showing Man Ure as a main game. God forbid someone else should get a look in. BBC knows how it is done.

Also did anyone remember ITV's tactic's truck when the show first started? Basically Andy Townsend sitting a player down and ripping them to bits. The player always looked really chuffed! They might be able to take his comments if they came from a decent player but Townsend?!?!

That section of the show got stopped rather quickly if I remember right.

yeah great to be back but im biased anyway as I work for the beeb. Des was good in his time but thats gone now and after a bit of a slow start lineker has impressed me plus he knows what hes talking about. The only think i find wierd or maybe its just me but what is Schmeichel on I sometime wonder if hes watched the same game maybe hes in their for the comedy factor.
Hoping like some other comments that MOTD remember that there are more than 3 teams in the league fed up of only seeing my team plus others only on the tv if they are playing Man utd Arsenal or Chelski.

They do now, its on saturday nights and you get to choose what game you watch. Im sure that will satisfy those fans complaining that their team didn't get shown.

I think its on at the same time as well.

Dont get me wrong SKY's sports coverage is fantastic, but what I meant is the all round MOTD presentation for me beats shows such as Goals on Sunday that was presented by the lovely Claire Tomlinson. I will also watch skys new 50 min highlight shows , but in a funny kind of way less is more .

Hansen and Lineker = superb.

I could listen to Hansen all day. And to the poster who said he has no technical knowledge of the game, are you mad? How can you possibly say that about someone who played at the highest level for years?

Football First and MOTD are all very well, but what if your team is in the Coca Cola Championship and you haven't got Sky? Unless you can remember to tape a half-arsed, half-hour highlights package that's shown at 2.30 in the morning, you're buggered. Football First, in particular, looks to be a lovely product, but for me, although it's offering more coverage, it's still more of the same old stuff.
