Kubica doesn't even have a contract with Renault (Lotus) any more, he could end up anywhere after he recovers. But agreed if I was Grosjean, I would be ******* myself already about getting replaced mid-season, given Renaults record

Yeah, he left his house in Italy and slipped on the icy street outside his door, yesterday - the fracture is in the same leg that he broke during "that" rally. Such an unlucky bloke...

James Allen replaces David Croft on the Radio 5 Live commentary! I suppose that was fairly inevitable.

Why do I get the feeling we won't see Kubica in a competitive F1 car again?

Yep hence why Ferrari are not confirming anything

Other news I'm still praying that virgin media let you sign up to the f1 channel without needing any other subscription package.

Probably worth qualifying that with "as third driver"

You know, having had time to get used to the idea of the limited BBC coverage and now reading that with more details on their plans, I'm not actually that disappointed. Had objections to getting Sky just for F1, but it looks like the BBC are going to continue to try and make a good go of it under the new contract and it might work ok.

If Brundle and Kravitz hadn't have left then I doubt anyone would have noticed any difference in the coverage, other than the lack of races.

OK OK, I said that because both teams already have confirmed drivers for 2012 so it seemed obvious to me that he could only be reserve.

+1

I really hope they don't try and get us signing up for all sorts of poop just to get this one channel. They're still (AFAIK) silent about what they are doing with the F1 Channel...

The rumours on the VM forums are that you need to subscribe to the sports package

What'll be interesting to see is how teams/drivers (particularly British ones) divide their time up between Sky and the BBC. It's a shame that they couldn't share some resources, but I think Sky saw their opportunity to further gut the BBC's coverage and went for it.

Are the BBC still showing the practice sessions this season? I hope so, wonder who will commentate on them. I wish they could have agreed to share Davidson/Croft for those

I think the practice sessions will be on the red button as usual for the ten races, and I presume James Allen will be commentating, as David Croft did before.

Don't understand why its taking so long to announce this...presume Sky are either trying to get people over to them, or want to try and charge VM top dollar for this channel.

What you don't understand 2 multi-national conglomerates arguing over money?

Sky's decision to give the F1 channel to all HD or Sports subscribers at the moment is probably to kill the backlash over them getting full F1 over the BBC.

As far as Virgin is concerned, this is a new channel so if they want to carry the channel I would assume there would be a cost, whether they would want to pass this cost on to the customer is another issue.

So yes I'd say BOTH of the reasons you state are valid.

Any chance the test days will be on the new Sky channel?

t's a kick in the teeth for non-sky subscribers like me who have to pay to subscribe to either the sports or hd package to view the f1 channel.

It the rumours on the VM forums are correct virgin will be bundling in with their sports package. So my ideal scenario of a provider somewhere charging Ł10 a month is out of the question.

I am going to stick with the beeb for the 10 races & the other 10 I will find some dodgy online stream in Chinese

In these days where almost all channels are in HD I don't know why anyone wouldn't have the HD pack if they are subscribing to Sky. Other than not having a HD TV that is.
