That news has been around for 2 days. I am glad that Hulkenberg got the deserving seat in a team that is steadily improving.

Who do you think will come out on top for Force India team in 2012? Di Resta or The Hulk?

Di Resta.

I wonder where Sutil will go now. He's too good a driver to not have a seat.

Funny you should say that. There is a poll going on in F1 forums right now and The Hulk is marginally ahead at the moment...but things might change of course.

A lot of decent drivers in the frame for the seat though, Sutil, Barrichello and Alguersauri would be top three for me, but Senna and Buemi could equally be in with a chance. Personally, I would expect them to go for a experienced driver, so Sutil or Barrichello for my money. Rumours are that Williams are going to be 'sponsored' by Qatari investors in the same way that Etihad sponsor Man City, so given the sponsorship they already have from Venezuela the money issues may dissapear.

James Allen is the new F1 commentator for 5 Live. I wonder what the general reaction to that will be, but of interest in particular to those who are looking at investing in RTL...

I never understood the hate toward him, if I'm honest. His worst mistake was following Murray walker

I remember thinking it was no great loss when he stopped. He's always been much better as an analyst IMO.

To me (and my wife) he always seemed to be far too Ferrari-loving. Didn't he call his kid Enzo as well? All felt very tiresome...

On a separate note, anyone heard if there's any news yet on the Virgin Media front i.e. having the Sky F1 channel in SD or HD?

The doubt comes when a driver is approaching a corner, are they allowed to block and then move back to the racing line for the corner?

The FIA tightened this rule up the other day with their final version of the Sporting Regulations. The rule now reads:

Quote:
More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted,” says article 20.3. “Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off‐line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner.

So after slamming shut the inside line at the last minute, the driver will just say "but I did leave him at least one car width between my car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner"..... Just on the outside.

Does this mean they have to miss the apex by a cars width?

If they've already made a defensive move down the straight and come back on to the racing line, then yes I think it means they have to miss the apex by a cars width.... but they can still brake later!

There are so many corners where that will simply not be possible, take Triangle at Suzuka. You'd need to do a 3 point turn to get round it that wide.

No, no it's got nothing to do with the actual corner. It's the outside edge of the track as they approach the corner.

If they move to the inside on approach to stop a car going up the inside of them, then they can't cut back across on to the racing line and take the optimal line to the apex. They have to leave a cars width.

This means they will have to take the corner more slowly and the other car can theoretically try and pass them round the outside.

Indeed; the story is trending on Twitter. Honestly, the guy's luck... All he needs now is for a bolt of lightning to hit him. I'll bet Roman G is rubbing his hands with relief, though!
