Mmm... I'd love to see Otters - I keep finding signs along the river here but doubt I'll ever get lucky enough to see a wild one!

The otters are good value, but taken in a wildlife park not wild....

And a full size unsharpened jpg (10mb!) - here

Quite possibly spotted some more leucistic blackbirds to photograph...

Guessing they're the offspring of the one I saw last year. One male with less regular markings (pretty sure the markings wouldn't change year to year so isn't the original). The second is a female, only caught a fleeting glimpse yesterday so could be wrong, but was like a very pale caramel colour...

See here for similar example: Blackbird

Well I've decided to ditch the Nikon 70-300 4-5.5G and just ordered a Sigma 70-300 APO. I wouldn't have been able to get the Nikon VR past the purse string holder, but managed to get the Sigma through!

Should be delivered tomorrow, and I have a trip to Whipsnade arranged on Tues, so will give it a good go then

Not expecting it to be stunning, but should be a good bit better than my old Nikon! If not, then I will have to accept that it's my technique

I had a play with my new Sigma 70-300 at Whipsnade last week.

The first shot is straight from the camera (shot in RAW)

Adjusted levels a bit and made some edits in Elements (removed the red bag and added some blur). It's the first proper try I've had with Elements and I have loads to learn, so would appreciate some constructive feedback on the photo itself and the edits.

Nothing much you can do about the setting but as far as exposure and timing they both look pretty good to me. I like the ruffled feathers on the bird's left wing where the wind has lifted them.

Cheers - they are a bit, was good to get a close look at one though. When I've seen them before and tried photographing them I only had my 70-300 zoom so not quite the magnification you might want for flies!
