I've recently finished reading all 4 books in preparation of Dance with Dragons and like many felt a bit weird reading Feast of Crows, in some ways it feels almost like a spin-off book rather than a continuation of Storm of Swords.

There's one "theory" that strongly occurred to me when reading the books, which I'm sure others on here have contemplated themselves, and that's to the nature of Jon Snow's parents:

With that idea bugging me, I just now did a google search to see if others agree and what clues led them to the same conclusion as me, and I stumbled across a really excellent dissection on the origin of Jon Snow. If true then some of the quotes from the early books will give you a new appreciation as to how intelligently plotted A Song of Ice and Fire is:

WARNING! SPOILERS FOR AT LEAST ALL BOOKS UP TO A STORM OF SWORDS IN THE FOLLOWING LINK:

Who Are Jon Snow's Parents

Heads up: The Kindle edition is now down to £11.99

However, when I checked my Kindle Pre-Order I discovered it was still reading the price as £14.99 so I cancelled and reordered to get the new price.

Any idea what time the Kindle version is released? Could I be reading this at 12:01 tonight?

Cheers for that - have ordered. Will probably save it for when I go on holiday in a couple of weeks.

Notice my Dance with Dragons HB has been delayed by Amazon.

Wouldn’t usually care, but finished re-reading Feast for Crows yesterday so wanted to dive straight into the new one.

May have a peek in Tesco/Asda tomorrow just in case - I was surprised to see Asda selling Clash Of Kings (the green cover paperback) in their chart, so anything’s possible.

Well that's my hope. I thought I read it would be delivered at midnight but probably it just promises to arrive at your kindle app some time tomorrow. I'm assuming my phone's kindle app will crash totally so I can't read it.

Cheers for the heads up on the price drop, I will be in Italy on Saturday working for the next 3 weeks so this should be keeping me company!

My Amazon order has changed to "dispatching soon"! I think it's clear, though, that it won't be arriving tomorrow

Time for a seperate Dragons thread now, methinks.

I'm really hoping he comes back to Belfast sometime during the Game of Thrones season two filming. Did a quick Google and the last signing he did was last November though. I'm just starting AFfC and could probably wait a couple of months before getting ADwD, but don't know if I could wait until this November...

He needs to stop going to every convention and signing under the sun, maybe then we'll get the next instalment in less than 6 years.

I'm more concerned by the fact he looks like a man a year away from a fatal coronary.

Mine was delivered this morning. The prologue seems a lot longer than normal.

One issue: the Kindle app doesn't allow you to zoom in on the maps so on my Desire HD they're pretty much unreadable.

Got mine on the Kindle this morning too (ie the Amazon Kindle, rather than an app). Maps just about readable without zooming, but only just. But good enough to get an idea of where everything is.

Anyone got the hardback yet? Just how heavy is it? Can't imagine how I could physically read a 1000 page hardback

Can we please use the new ADWD thread for discussion of the new book?

My copy hasn't been dispatched by Amazon yet. Grumble.

Will deffo use the new thread to discuss plot.

HB is £12.50 in-store at Waterstones. Not quite as heavy as I feared it would be, probably pretty readable.

Just finished book 1.

One of the best books I've read in a long long time. I've never been a fan of the fantasy genre but this may have converted me.

If I had to grumble, I'd say there was too much going on, but I only struggled cause I read it over 3-4 weeks.

I've already started book 2 and can't wait to start watching the series.

Exactly the same experience here. I devoured the first book, having not read any fantasy in years. Currently halfway through the second book and eyeing the third just as soon as I've finished it.

Incredible storytelling played out over a breathtaking landscape.

I did book 3, both parts, in a couple of weeks and I found book 4 in Tesco for £3.69 new! Am holding off until ADWD gets a paperback release date at least.

Sword of Storms is my favourite by far, everything's kicking off!

Started the series again and currently flying to the end of AGOT. It's helping me to get through the dull and empty days at work leading to Christmas when everyone else is off and GRRM's works (and 6 Music) are the only company...

Still, it's a brilliant read, possibly more so the second time as I'm getting a lot of the nuances and character traits that become more important later in the series. Other little bits I just love e.g. the almost incidental way Ned dispatches Berric Donadarrion to go deal with Gregor Clegane, utterly unaware of the long-reaching consequences this will have...
