[DANCES]Oooh baby, do you know what that's worth?
Oooh, heaven is place on earth!![/DANCES]

Ahem.
Good news.
10 episodes is easily enough to cover the first novel methinks.

Brilliant stuff, what sort of release date can we expect for the pilot or will that just now be part of the main 10 episode series?

Hopefully he will have the book finished by then to at least give us something to look forward to (page 1311 he notes on his blog)! The problem I see with the long timescales in the TV production is that the very young characters will probably need different actors/actresses come the later seasons if it gets there.

I believe with HBO they only ever show Pilots as part of the series. So we should see the whole lot in one go, hopefully around this time next year.

Please let someone leak the pilot . . .

I have to keep resisting the temptation to go back and re-read the books - really would be daft, already gone through them twice. Next thing you know I'll be buying some of those daft models he keeps on blogging about.

Ah, I've only gone and done it. I had a severe case of the sniffles last week and wanted a good book to read - couldn't find anything new, ended up starting A Game of Thrones. Now I'm hooked again and am about to start A Clash of Kings.

Got to say though, this is my third () reading, and they're still holding up great. Also nice is now not caring about spoilers, so I'm happily referring to The Tower of The Hand to see how things link in. And when you know it's there, the signposting about

is pretty clear, but my first read through was a case of 'Eh? Dreams? They can't be important . . .'

Due to this thread I decided to try out this series, I read about 100 pages of the first book and just found it hard going as the author just seemed to waffle of for far too long per chapter. I put the book down for about six months and came back to it when I had nothing else to read and I am very glad that I did as I continued on form where I had left off and enjoyed it immensely. I am now halfway through the second part of book three and while still enjoying it I am finding it hard to see where the story is going.

Great read though but I do find that the author gets way to bogged down in detail and I am totally lost with the amount of characters and the history of the Seven Kingdoms, hopefully that will be a little easier to follow on a second read through or on the TV show

One thing I do like is how some of the characters were introduced and I thought were boring but have grown to be my favourites like Tyrion and Dany.

Ha ha, don't even try . . .

If you're finding it hard to keep track, the fan sites - Tower of the Hand is I think the main one - are invaluable, and there are also detailed maps and timelines out there if you really want to make family and friends shake their heads. Watch out for spoilers though.

It is not keeping track of the story, although I must confess to forgetting who people are, more of a some characters who you have followed for three books only to have their story abruptly end.

Also I have just bought book 4 A feast of Crows and notice that book 5 will not be out till September. Has the author said how many books there will be in the series?

I think there was meant to be 7, I wouldn't believe any date about when the 5th book is out as we have been waiting years upon years for it now. I would like to see it before the end of the year but that would be optimistic IMO!

I just finished rereading Feast of Crows in anticipation of April release [that was what it said last time I looked a while ago] and now see Sept.
I will have forgotten it all by then again - as stated I would take Sept with a pinch of salt.
Annoying when in the Author's note he suggested it was all but written already

That's what puts me off reading these books. I read the first one about three years ago and loved it, but it wasn't as conclusive as I was hoping (I'm used to the Dark Tower, Harry Potter etc where they're part of a larger saga but also tell a virtually complete story in each volume). Back then, the fifth book was scheduled to be released at the end of the year and I figured I could hold off a few years and read the series close to when the final book would be coming out.

I thought I'd be reading them again by now. I might once the TV show starts (just to keep ahead of it), but the worry for me is that Martin will never finish the story.

I am getting to the end of feat of crows now and am kind of finding that this book was just over bloated, and could have really done with a lot of editing, the chapter that has Sansa and Robert leaving the castle due to the snow just went on and on and on and on.

The book could have been half the size and still told the same story which makes it even worse as I have just got to the bit

Still look forward to reading the next one as the ideas and the over story is good but I am guessing when it does come out it will have the same problem. Hard to believe that at the end of crows the note written at end is dated 2005 and teh next book is still nto out.

I don't remember thinking the book particularly bloated but the scope is different. The main section that (for me) felt lacking was the stuff in the south, where we got very little happening at all compared to all the action elsewhere.

Interesting reading the latest comments about AFFC... made me realise that I can't remember barely a thing about it. I'm going to have to re-read the series before ADWD finally does come out, otherwise I think I'll be lost!
