Wood burning is great fun. It's pretty slow but I find it pretty relaxing. Nice work. Some people use sharpies so that they can get some colour in their designs. Think I'll try it out.

This is the one that got me started. I bought it from Chickenbone John about 3 years ago...

Thanks, getting the design on to the box was the hardest part.

I have a day of the dead skull which I'd like to do on the next one which will be in colour, so good to know about the sharpies

That's really cool! How do you play something like that? Open tuning?

Thanks yeah open tuning mostly for slide action but other tunings are possible. I usually make them GDG or EBE. I've done a wee demo on youtube for you vonbash first acoustic...

Then electric...

Excellent! You need to get a large poster of on old US shack or something for the background, make it look more authentic...!

Yeah I always do a quick rushed demo on my phone but maybe I should make more effort, get a barn maybe and have a few haystacks and pigs in the background

I had a go at making my first cigar box mandolin. It was a right effort but made it in the end.

Cheers it's pretty loud. It's just an acoustic. Quite a bright tone. I posted a video there maybe you can't see it?

Ah. Embedded vids don't show up on Tapatalk.

Any reason for the longer headstock? Looks different but still nice. I also noticed you used the same box as the electro/acoustic one you made for someone on here further up the thread. You have a job lot of them to use up?!!

It's almost the same size of headstock as a mandolin I bought so just went with that really, also had to make sure I had enough room for the 8 machine heads, which turned out to be a very tight fit.

Yeah I bought £100 worth of boxes from a shop last summer, and although they gave me a few different ones, I got about a dozen the same. I think I've got two or three more to use yet

I bought a nice shabby chic box from ebay so that might be the next one, and I bought a dog bowl so I'm going to attempt my first dog bowl resonator. Should be good fun!

This probably only means something to me, but my mandolin just got some praise from Keni Lee Burgess on facebook. The guy is a proper cigar box guitar legend over in the US. Check out his stuff on Youtube, he does great old time blues and instructional videos on how to play as well as selling his own CDs. Chuffed
